I’ve visited this establishment a few times in the past month and it’s very poorly ran and just a tourist hotspot that doesn’t value local customers. The first time I went I noticed on the cup it says “Ice-cream, Popsicles, Freeze Dried Candy” or something to that affect, but popsicles aren’t listed on the menu and when you ask the staff they basically just say they were GOING to have popsicles but for some reason aren’t anymore. The few times I visited they didn’t have much freeze dried candy, which is a shame because the prices are decent and it’s something I wanted to try. When I went this weekend they were out of chocolate sauce and ice-cream sandwiches. Do not bother ever ordering a monthly special, they didn't have one in September or October. Why put “monthly special” on the menu if you never have one? It doesn’t make it extra special to always be out. To bring my point home about the restaurant being poorly ran and not catering to locals, instead of having a menu board that shows you their flavors like any other countertop service restaurant, the owners (who I’ve never seen in the shop) play their own TV show the whole time, and have the staff yell at you how to order, where you have to fill out sheets of paper individually. As someone who’s worked in restaurants for over twenty years, this is an idiotic concept, as customers don't want to do any work themselves. I understand it’s becoming more popular on the island to not accept cash, but it’s driving away profit and it’s very elitist, especially considering the neighborhood they’re in. When you ask staff why they don’t accept cash they say “for safety” and “we don’t have a cash drawer.” Safety is just another way of saying the owners don’t trust galveston residents not to steal from them. Good product, gimmicky execution. It’s clear the owners have never worked a real job in the...
Read moreLove the look of the place and watching the crew roll ice cream. The people were friendly and helpful. If you're lucky, you might even see a Cordray! Remember to close the door tight on your way in and grab a clipboard with an order form - one per ice cream/item and remember to put your name at the top! It was a bit of a wait, but so well worth it. While waiting, play a game of Jenga or Connect Four out back or find a table and sit and color/doodle on the white butcher table. If you're lucky enough to get a seat at the front ice cream bar, you can watch them make ice cream for all - it was really fascinating. The root beer float was one of the best that we have had and it all came back to the ice cream. We loved the strawberry and the chocolate, as well as the chocolate peanut butter (perfect amout of peanut butter cup mixed in). Next time we come, we'll try some of the other mix-ins. We were most impressed with the chocolate as it was a light but flavorful and robust chocolate. If you are looking for a dense fudgy heavy chocolate, try somewhere else or maybe get the brownie mix-ins? This delicate decadense is our new favorite chocolate! We were pleased that there was a wheelchair ramp on the left side of the building with a door and access...
Read moreWell this is the second attempt to get the famous rolled ice cream. This review unfortunately is NOT about the ice cream itself, but rather about the ridiculousness of the wait to get ice cream. The first attempt was with the wife and kids. The place was packed to the gills which was a good and bad sign (for obvious reasons). So the thought of waiting over an hour with my kids in tow was definitely not in the cards. Trip #2 was with my mother who is handicapped and cannot make it up the stairs. She had to wait in the car while I went into a moderately crowded establishment. I was then told to grab a menu and make my order, which I did. Then was told that it was 45 minutes to an hour wait, which was too much time, especially with mom in the car.
I'm really glad that Michael and Ashley have a successful business, but they really need to figure out a way to accommodate customers without having to wait an hour. I can see waiting maybe 15-20 minutes max, but beyond that IMHO no ice cream is worth that much of a wait.
In all seriousness, I wish them the best and maybe the 3rd time will be a success, but I might just wait till the winter when all of the...
