Read moreI was very excited about this restaurant because it looked delicious, however I have never been met with such a rude response to asking questions about a nut allergy in my 22 years of life.
My mom asked the host if he could answer some allergy questions and he agreed, then proceeded to guess at answers in a rude manor and claimed “I’m just a host”. I understand hosts often don’t know these answers and that is completely fine, but his attitude was hurtful. The second man who came up also was rude. Instead of listening to our questions and finding the answers to a simple question, do you use peanut oil, he proceeded to clean off menus and acted very annoyed. When asking if there were peanuts, pistachios, or cashews in the building, he said “it’s a bakery of course there are nuts” (I’m allergic to 3 nuts, so often certain bakery’s are safe, I also didn’t see any on the menu). He continued to blow us off.
Never have I been treated so poorly by a restaurant when asking about allergies. As soon as I walked out the door, I started crying out of embarrassment and the overall lack of respect I was treated with. Never has a restaurant made me cry before, even with rude responses. I have worked through so much anxiety to ask questions about my allergy in public because I hate having to be met with accommodations and am always nervous about a misunderstanding leading to my death. However, even when people don’t understand what I’m asking, I have been treated with respect. I can’t help that I have allergies and need accommodations as a protected disability. Some may say “just don’t go out to eat! You can’t expect everyone to accommodate you!” I do not expect anyone to accommodate me and I don’t expect every restaurant to be safe or even know the answers to my questions, but I do expect to be treated with respect. I worked as a server and know that if you don’t know the answer, you grab a manager. If they don’t know the answer, you kindly acknowledge that you cannot accommodate someone.
These two employees turned the morning of a girl excited to try some fresh buttermilk pancakes into the worst restaurant experience of my life. I pray no one else with food allergies has this experience. The saving grace was Yaga’s cafe who answered my questions kindly and treated my family with respect and...
Read moreI adore this place - def one of the top spots on the island to eat for my husband & I. It's one in the handful of spots that we periodically eat at on the reg... So many good things here. The bakery for one with all the fresh cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes. The cafe with the fresh coffee, custom options, the cute coffee bar too & not to mention the fresh smell coming from both the cafe & bakery. The lovely outside seating in a garden like area, very back patio like vibe & covered in part on one side. The staff is always wonderfully attentive, usually quick & efficient - this place does get very busy & sometimes can be a wait but honestly it's because the place is great & popular & known for quality & I don't mind it therefore! - the food is just spectacular too man, I can't even with some of their food. The menu choices are a little unique too therefore & their bakery makes anything on their menu off of it just that more delectable being made fresh & in house. I know they're known locally for obliging eating preferences, food allergies, diet restrictions, etc. & for doing it completely without issue for customers who need that. Their chicken & waffles is awesome, I love their cappuccino, cinnamon rolls & cookies I recall. I know their biscuits & gravy is one of my top favorites on the island... I get the biscuits & gravy literally every time. I love the ability to go up to the bakery & grab fresh items as well.. I'm pretty sure a lotta folks buy the fresh items for pick up or to go a lot & pretty sure they have catering style options available as well for the bakery, I'm assuming the cafe also does larger & to go orders then too. I know they are more breakfast, lunch, brunch though & it's a place you visit earlier in the day for sure. The prices for what you get are super fair too... They're really wonderfully priced for the quality, taste & amount of food. They have a great local reputation & are often spoken of highly... It's a wonderful spot to try on the island with a unique flavor & great atmosphere. Highly...
