In response to you Tammy ( 2/28/21) thank you for your response. However when i first was in communication with Rick immediately following our 2nd visit(which was 8 months ago) he was very rude & unprofessional. Instead of him at least accepting the feedback from customers he was unprofessional.I would NEVER stay with SH again nor would i recommend it. The original property should have the same upkeep and attention as the new. The new one would never have nasty gum in the sink for 2 days. Not seeing you and breakfast were not the only issue i mentioned
Updated review 2nd stay Length of stay: 4 days Dates of stay: 6/12/2020-6/16/2020
So this time me and my mother stayed for a mini vacation. The last time we stayed was for a cruise but with needing a break from covid we decided to visit Galveston, knowing the SH from a previous stay which was lovely we REGRETTABLY went back. During our initial stay there was only one property and the male host (who we loved and missed seeing) and his dog Gabby (who we also loved) were there
Our room was Heidelberg (located in the first Schaefer, now known as the guest house). We had to check in at the newly renovated, clean "main house" than walk back over to the dingy, poorly maintained, neglected "guest house". The host Tammy who we only saw at check in walked us over.
Later that Night we tried watching TV but could not get anything to come on. We called Tammy who directed us to unplug the TV,wait a few seconds and try again. Fortunately I am 5'9 and was able to reach but my 5 foot mother couldn't have if she was there alone. After unplugging it still did not work, called Tammy back for no answer. While getting in bed we noticed the blanket was filthy.
Next day we called and spoke to Sarah (I think that was her name) she was great help. Got the TV fixed, she addressed every complaint we had. This woman must work 24/7 because Everytime we called she answered.
We explained to her how nasty and dirty the kitchen had been for 2 days (gum and trash in the sink) and she rectified it immediately
Staying in the guest house paying the same as guest In the main house while not having the same amenities was very disheartening
We paid for a Bed and Breakfast expecting the same as we got last time but we did not get that. For breakfast in the "guest house" you have to walk next door to the main house, for happy hour you have to walk next door to the main house, for ice you have to go to the main house. In the guest house you have access to the kitchen and you room. The kitchen has no utensils,no ice,it's not maintained. There is a station with coffee, tea and water but the water is never changed, there's trash under the cabinet which you find out whole looking for utensils meanwhile in the main house there is a fridge when you walk in,nice sitting area, ice cold infused water, crackers and cheese, wine etc...for anyone on vacation trying to relax we should not have to get up and walk to another location for things we paid for where we stayed. For the price we could have stayed in a hotel that cleaned daily and had breakfast in the lobby
For me and my mother we most definitely will not be returning to the Schaefer House. It seems as though the owner (Rick) has gotten the profit from the original Schafer house and instead of maintaining both properties he is only maintaining the newer one which is poor business
Lena Mclong 5/5 2 years ago on Google Looooooved it. Read moreFirst, I have to say that I’ve traveled for business and have millions of air miles and have had four different groups of pages added to my passport. I have stayed at hundreds and hundreds of places. But this was my first Bed and Breakfast. Most recently, I (my wife and I) have been staying in AirBnBs and most recently been very disappointed. Now onto The Mansion We had the room on the first floor, which was great for me/us as I’m 65 and broke my ankle 4 months ago but thought it was a sprain for 3.5 months of it. I don’t remember the name of the room, but it is the only one downstairs. We came here for our anniversary. The room was great, would have liked more closet space and some kind of drawers as we are the rarities who stayed 4 days, right after Hurricane Beryl. Besides additional space for clothing, the room was spacious with good A/C, great bed and comforters, good size bathroom and strong shower. The staff: Erica, Tammy and Erin (my wife says Aaron, uh-oh, sorry for spelling your name wrong. You deserve better) ARE GREAT! Super friendly, knowledgeable about their town and its history. We met Rick the owner who is also very nice, but busy so didn’t get as much time chatting with him as we did with everyone else. PLUS - I dont know if it’s the Bed and Breakfast thing or this place thing, but all of the occupants hung out, got to know each other and each story. We met couples staying since they didn’t have electricity in their homes due to the storm. We met other couples staying in preparation for their cruise. But we all hung out, drank, smoked, shared stories and had fun. The location is close to everything, but with my ankle, I didn’t walk anywhere…can’t really go for too long. It was a great experience and a great stay! Couldn’t feasibly imagine recommending something or someplace more...
Read moreTammy was just wonderful throughout our stay. She and her daughter made it very pleasant and were so engaged in keeping our toddler happy despite his anti-social wails.
The room was exactly as we booked and expected. It is an old building but experienced quite a few renovations. Richard, the owner and chef was extremely accommodating of our dietary restrictions too.
Room: King with Balcony. It was done up beautifully and felt cozy and comfortable. There are 2 ACs, but I wasn't sure if the one above the balcony door worked, but it didn't matter to us. The bed was comfortable and we slept really well. The washroom was vintage on design, and the tub didn't allow much space for 1 person and the shower drapes. Again, not an issue since we're built small.
Breakfast: Delicious Started off with fruit and yogurt, with the option of Mimosas (which we didn't take). There was Orange and Grapefruit juice too with Coffee and Tea. We had notified them of our restrictions, and they had Mushroom Quiche and French Toast made fresh for us. It was filling, delicious, and we could have easily asked for more.
Note: The washroom door in this room is barn-door style and has no lock. If the drapes go in front of the AC by the window, it shuts off for safety (due to no air intake), so ensure they are pulled aside.
All in all, if we were to cruise out of Galveston again, we will surely stay...
