I went here on a bit of a lark. Reminded me of Claimjumper in the Seattle area. First off, the staff were very attentive and friendly. The manager himself was on the floor and he escorted me to a table. The place was busy, always a good sign.
My server was quick, brought me menus (One for drinks and one for the meal), and hurried off to get me my drink. I settled on a full rack of beef ribs, which can be notorious for being dry, but since I can't eat pork, I have to settle for larger bones and more meat.
She brought me a side Caesar salad and a cornbread muffin, and both were quite good. I suppose I could be a bit nit picky and mention that she asked if I wanted red onions and there were none, but really not a big deal. Then the meal arrived, timely. As you can see from the picture I got quite a bit with a full rack and the two sides. The beans were really good, but had pork in them (Wish I had known sooner but I "tuffed" it out), and the potato salad didn't have celery and did have egg bits in it. Yummy.
As to the ribs themselves, they were so good. Not dry, had a great subtle spice rub, good bark, and just enough sauce to help one make a proper mess when eating. I wanted to eat the whole rack, but decided to hold off a bit so I could have desert. My waitress brought me a desert menu and explained that not only did they have the items on it, but also a berry cobbler.
A cool thing, the cobbler came in cup and bowl sizes, with and without ice cream. I ordered a cup of berry cobbler with ice cream which showed up shortly with a small, but perfectly sized scoop of ice cream. It was so gooooood, blackberries I think. I tried not to be too much of a pig with all of the food, I really did.
During my meal, there was one large group near me, a family gathering. They were also served quickly and efficiently. When they left, the servers descended upon the tables like a small army of ants, cleaning away the tables, cleaning the tables and chairs themselves, and preparing for more customers. Which ended up being filled with another family gathering.
Again, the staff were very friendly and attentive, they were quick and overall very accurate with everything. I never heard anyone have any kind of a complaint, or any kind of a situation occur. There are TV's around the room that were showing various baseball games being played. This place is very family friendly as well as perfect for teens, young adults, older adults, and pretty much everyone.
I had the best non-home cooked meal there that I have had since I moved to Idaho back in 2015. I will happily return, business lunches, celebratory dinners, heck just to go and have a dinner of some mighty fine beef ribs.
(You can see the menu for yourself to see what all they have, so don't think that they are limited...
Read moreI'm not quite sure where some are coming from calling this 'good food.' Honestly, avoid this place. This is bad food. An embarrassment to real bbq and food in general. I had the bbq brisket 'Texas style.' My wife had the Smoked Turkey sandwich. We were disheartened when the food arrived. Both meats looked like they went to Costco and picked up sliced, pre packaged meat, then ladled bbq sauce on mine. The smoke flavor tasted fake. Bbq beans were below average. Portion of the sandwich was also not great. They also provided a piece of lettuce on the side, which should never be a part of having bbq. My wife's fries were honestly pretty good. These thick steak fries can be difficult to prepare properly, and I thought they were pretty good. To top it off, we got a waitress with massive attitude! From the very beginning things went south. We were there with my cousin who is struggling with cognitive issues, and I was speaking for him to help him order. She saw this as me meddling and was having none of it. I nearly went to the manager and complained of our waitress, but I hadn't seen my cousin in a year, and didn't want to cause a scene. Normally, I would never put up with this behavior. I know service can be difficult, and I go overboard with my please and thank you's as I never want to put off an air of entitlement etc... So this waitress behaving this way nearly ruined our lunch. The manager and others who were working in the restaurant seemed like nice people. The ambiance is nice but it is very loud in the restaurant. If you want to have a quiet conversation... or good food.. this isn't the...
Read moreMy family normally chooses the Goodwood for Mothers and Fathers Day dinners. We no longer will. Service has gone down hill. We were there June 16, 2018 for an early Fathers Day dinner. My husband ordered an Ice Tea NO LEMON. He was brought an Ice Tea WITH A LEMON. So our waitress took it back and evidently scooped out the Lemon with something, who knows what. She brought it back and my husband had to scoop LEMON SEEDS FROM THE BOTTOM. It also tasted like lemon. I would like to know what Goodwood would have done if my husband was allergic to lemon?? Not that he is but the point is people requests for one reason or another. My son ordered a Chicken salad with NO HONEY MUSTARD. He was brought a HONEY MUSTARD CHICKEN SALAD!! Once again what if my son had an allergic reaction!! It's NOT THAT DIFFICULT! I received a steak that was completely tasteless. There was NO FLAVOR at all. It was more done than I asked for as well. We could not complain due to the fact we were celebrating Fathers Day and we were on a time schedule. When our waitress came to take our cash for the bill she asked if we needed change. We said yes. We waited just over 5 minutes for her to return. SHE NEVER RETURNED!!! We had to just get and leave. Needless to say because she never returned with our change we did not leave her the full amount for a tip. We could only leave her $4. and whatever she had left from the cash we gave her. We are so very disappointed in...
