I ordered the Shrimp fried rice and Shrimp with Vegetables for my husband, who wanted Chinese food and since Yen Yen was open decided to get it from there. Big Mistake!!! I shouldn't have ordered from there , I had ordered from them before and got sick after eating there, then a couple years later decided to give them another chance thinking it was a one time deal, so I ordered again and got so sick that I swore I'd never get food from Yen Yen's in this lifetime. So when hubby wanted food from there, I was hesitant to honor his request, but didn't voice my concerns, thinking it's been twenty something years, so the odds of him getting sick like I had in the past were probably nonexistent, well I was WRONG , he didn't even eat all of it and spent the next day being so sick. After he was feeling better he tore the menu up, vowing never again would we order from there. Now when I had called to place the order the woman I spoke with was polite and professional so customer service Based on that was helpful , but unfortunately, it's the food that has to be good and safe to eat if you're running a restaurant, so the fact my husband became violently ill after eating their food I cannot recommend Yen Yen Restaurant...
Read moreIt's almost 30 years since I have eaten here. I remember why. Overall disappointing. I must say, the boneless spare ribs, were quite tender, and their honey glaze, does make it much less sweet. So that was good... but, It ended up having to be the meal. Because their scezhuan spicy beef, is not so good. made with only 2 vegetables, celery and, I'm not sure what the other one was..??? thought there were scallions, but that turned out to be an accident, there was only one bite of scallion (didn't expect it anyway) ... but the meal has no flavor. yes it has actual scezhuan peppers, but those aren't actually edible because they have the consistency of bay leaves. The staff was friendly, but the atmosphere is not enticing... not the sit down kind of restaurant. NOW... with the meal you have to pay extra for the white rice... where in most places it comes with the meal, the prices elsewhere with it included is cheaper... and better quality. I guess 30 years wasn't long enough. And the portions were no more or less than what I have been served in Every...
Read moreThe positive reviews here must be fake; or people don't know what good food is. I went to Yen Yen for the first time tonight and let me just say that it is some of the worst Chinese takeout I've ever had.
The crab rangoon tasted of bitter cream cheese. The chicken and beef teriyaki were both dry and chewy. The rice was also dry and had an odd flavor I just can't really explain, it didn't have many vegetables (was mostly onions with just little pieces of egg), and was a shade of dark brown you'd associate with... well I won't gross you out, you get the idea.
My wife, daughter, sons, and I where incredibly disappointed. They complained throughout the whole meal -normally we'd fight (not literally, obviously) over the food; but there was a lot leftover tonight that no one wanted to touch. This will will be our first and last visit to Yen Yen.
Anyone in the Gardner area is better off traveling to Gold Bowl in Leominster for some decent Chinese (no, I am not a...
