Today was my first time experiencing Salt N Pepper Kitchen catering. The atmosphere was welcoming they had nice music playing very clean and the air conditioning was cold definitely a plus. I went in and ordered a Egusi soup with no meat and the young man that I was talking to asked me was I a vegetarian and I told him some what he said well I wanted to let you know that the Egusi soup has meat in it so he wanted me to be aware of that. That was definitely a plus cuz if I was a vegetarian then that would matter but he went on to explain to me and I told him that was fine I still eat meat and so he came back and I asked him about my my, (not sure how to spell it) then he asked me how did I know about my my and I told him that my stepfather was from Nigeria and that's where I learned it. He seemed very shocked I knew what it was so he went on to ask me about my stepfather he asked me was he still alive and I told him no he wasn't and he asked me was he a good man and I said definitely he was. So, as far as the food goes it's amazing and the guy that I talk to just alone from even eating the food is what makes me want to come back so I want to give a shout out to the guy that talked to me today about my stepfather that was from Nigeria the other waitresses were really nice and ask me if I needed anything but I will definitely definitely definitely be back because I normally go to North Dallas and I live in Garland so it's very far away from me and I told the guy that I usually go to Murphy's and so I'm glad that there is a Nigerian restaurant where I live closer so thank you again and I really appreciate it signed a satisfied customer, Dom. P.S. The man I talked to told me to try the Spinach Stew next time and...
Read moreThis was my first time trying this kind of food, and i was so excited just to be let down not only by the food and the prices but also the way i was treated on the phone while ordering for pick up. When i called to order i kept reiterating that i don't know if i’m pronouncing the names right because it didn’t seem like the guy on the other end of the phone could understand what i was asking for. I was told that I should hang up and cancel this order and call back another time and figure out what i wanted because he said I didn’t know what i wanted even though it was just a pronunciation problem. Then when i was asking for goat as my side meat i was told that not everyone likes goat and maybe i shouldn’t order it even tho I’ve grown up eating some of the most amazing goat. Then when I went to pick up my order they said that it wasn’t put in the system to be made or they gave it to someone else. We had to give them the order again, and they made it (note the person who was at the cash register was nice but whoever was on the phone sounded like they weren’t pleased that i was ordering) and at the end of it all the goat was tough and hard to chew, the food had great flavor and spice but for a price of 60$ for 2 entrees it was completely not worth it. Not to mention on the menu it said the efo elagusi was 16.99 and it came out to be 23$ which was just really disappointing considering I’ve been anticipating trying their food for months. It was just a crappie experience with...
Read moreSalt and Pepper used to be my go-to spot. I’ve brought so many people here over the years – my mother-in-law, friends, even just random hangouts. The food has always been their strong point, and I won’t lie, it’s still good. But the service? These days, it's a real letdown.
Nowadays, it feels like there’s only one male server doing everything – taking orders, serving food, attending to customers. I don’t know if the staff are overworked or what is going on behind the scenes, but the change is obvious and recent. There used to be at least two ladies helping, now it just feels like a one-man show. The last time I came, the tables were scattered and dirty. I actually considered walking out. The next visit, things were cleaner, but the service was still painfully slow and not welcoming at all.
And that light-skinned bald guy at the front desk? Very unfriendly. Doesn’t say much, doesn’t help much. In fact, he almost adds to the frustration.
Food business is hospitality business – it’s not just about what’s on the plate. You can have the best jollof rice in the world, but if the service is poor, people won’t come back. At this rate, I might just stick to takeout. Sitting in has become stress.
I genuinely hope they can turn things around. I still like this place, but it’s not what it used to be.
– A disappointed but...
