I was excited to go in as I’ve gone to “Coffee and Cops” events where police meet with the public to show a positive and supportive force.
However, it was very clear when I went in that it was just a mediocre donut shop meant to glorify police and all the good and bad that goes with it. With a decor and personality akin to a rural gift shop and gun range, the shop felt sparse and thrown together.
The biggest concern was the apparel that very clearly poked fun of an event that brought huge controversy to the police and their abuses of power. Shirts proudly displayed “Don’t Glaze Me, Bro!” on the back (see image). A reference to the incident at the University of Florida campus in 2007 where police allegedly abused their use of force on a protesting college student. Making light of an abuse of power was all I needed to leave.
Cops and police are a vital part of our social infrastructure and is one of the most supported and important socialist programs we have. It’s a shame that they would glorify an incident that puts such a negative light on them.
I encourage people to support places that build cops up, not ones that justify or make light of in appropriate behavior and bring a stain to an honorable profession.
Also, the coffee was church basement quality and overpriced, while the donuts were dry...
Read moreAfter standing in line for nearly 10 minutes, I ordered a large coffee and plain donut. I wanted a coffee with milk but they only serve black coffee as creamers are provided on a counter in a small corner of the store, those tiny creamers you peel the top off. No milk unless you want to purchase a small bottle of milk separately. The counter where you add your cream should be to the left of where you receive the coffee because you must cut through a line of customers to get to it, then it is crowded by some tables and chairs. It just made for more disorder. The place is roomy enough it could be set up more intelligently for crowds and better flow of traffic which would improve ratings, sales, and customer satisfaction. Workers were AMAZING, there were two alone on one register dealing with crowds. Coffee was good, not excellent, but decent. Used my own cream I had in a cooler in our car. Plain donut was just how I liked, moist and fluffy inside, crispy outside. Won't return because of no milk and trouble with customer traffic flow, also we were hoping for a jail cell for photos, but didn't see that. This place has potential for all excellent reviews by just changing...
Read moreWe drove to Gaylord from Boyne only to find no doughnuts. We arrived just before 2:00pm. Normally I wouldn’t expect a bakery to have that much of a selection at that time unless you’re open till 6 PM and it’s a holiday weekend! I called to confirm that they were open till 6pm before heading that way. They didn’t have ANY doughnuts! They had other pastry items like cannolis, brownies, and cookies, but no donuts!! They had plenty of business and disappointed customers. The family in front of us said “it’s a doughnut place. How the heck do you not have any donuts?” We agreed! The family before us walked in and walked out with nothing. The cashier seemed annoyed that everyone was asking “where are the donuts?” oh let me add. They did have a rack of day old donuts… but they were out in the open and self serve. They had gloves and paper for you to get those doughnuts. It’s still gross because all of the people were looking at these donuts and their clothing was too close to the food that I would be eating for me. I personally think it’s unsanitary...
