I have been coming here since I was a child. It feels very much like a hidden gem in our district/region of Kane County, situated among (and inside) of what appear to be very well-kept single family homes, but are, in fact, zoned commercial businesses.
This restaurant is very cozy and its menu is extremely robust, given the size of the structure. When you first walk in, it feels like expectations for a broad menu should be cut in half, but when they bring you the menu, the offerings are so broad in scope and selection that it is really tough to downplay. Just click on the Menu option here to see what they've got to offer--it's pretty remarkable.
So the prices are the upper "Geneva-level" prices. I say it's absolutely worth it at this restaurant. Unless you're on a date trying to be as frugal as possible, getting just a salad and a water (which, you'd be a fool to do, considering how great the food is here), expect to pay around $100 for a dinner for a couple (MAYBE a bit less, depending on drinks). Unless you split your entree into half orders and each have that, $100 is a safe bet. That's not to say that you aren't getting GREAT value, either. The food is ALL fresh and that is evident from how it tastes. Also, I've only ever had one less-than-excellent server here, and I haven't seen him in a while.
In closing, if you're lucky enough to be able to dine indoors (which is going to be tricky with the pandemic coming up against Chicagoland winters, so we'll see how things work out with social distancing), please be sure to tip the staff accordingly. As you can probably appreciate, this virus has hit the restaurant industry especially hard, and we all want places like Villa Verone to be around for a long, long time.
[If that last paragraph makes it sound like I'm affiliated with the place, I am not. I just KNOW how hard times are for places like this. One of my favorite restaurants of all time, Mity Nice Grill (formerly located inside of Water Tower Place in Chicago), closed after something like 20 years as a result of the impacts of this catastrophic disease. They barely made it through the Easter/Passover holidays before making the call to retire and give their staff a month to look for work before closing their doors. I REALLY don't want that to happen to any more of the restaurants that I've grown to love and appreciate over the course...
Read moreMy husband and I went to this restaurant a couple months ago for a date.To begin with, our waiter was too talkative to us for our liking, and when he asked where we had heard of the restaurant and we told him it had been listed as third on google for restaurants in Geneva, he immediately told us we were wrong, that it was number one because they make their own pasta and their food is fresh, despite that it literally was listed as third on google... he then kept coming over to talk us, interrupting our date. The decor is tacky and we were feeling uncomfortable, and then the food came. My husband, who is a true italian and has eaten at high end italian restaurants around the chicagoland area all his life, said that the food was NOT authentic and the meat in his dish didn't even taste fresh. My pasta was rather slimy as well, and the waiter (rather desperately) asked us to spread the word about them to our friends. Whenever restaurant people come on too strong with that, to me it kinda shows they might be struggling financially, and if so then I wonder how they are cutting corners to make ends meet (like maybe not buying as fresh of products.) To make matters worse the owner's son was convinced he knew my husband from somewhere, and sent our waiter over to bother us (again!) to ask if my husband had worked with him before, and he asked multiple times. The owner's son proceeded to stare at my husband throughout our entire time there. I understand seeing someone's look-a-like in public can be strange, but you shouldn't stare like that, especially if you want customers to come back. We will never be eating at this restaurant again, and will be sticking to truly authentic restaurants that don't leave us feeling...
Read moreFOOD POISONING! On 10/7/2023 we went to Villa Verone for my Nana's Birthday. I had not eaten all day so I was very hungry, the service was slow -although our server was personable to give him credit. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognaise, I knew the first bite I took that something was wrong, the pasta was not al dente, but more importantly the meat consistency was off. I imagine this is what cat food must taste like. The sauce was flavorless, might as well have been a jar of great value marinara. I would have sent it back except for our server took 10 minutes to check on us and I was starving so I covered it with parmesan and choked down about half of it before I gave up. It was a disappointing experience and I knew I would never go back, but this was only the beginning. When I went to sleep around 10AM I didn't feel so great, but at 3AM I ran to the bathroom and violently threw up that disgusting excuse for Rigatoni Bolognaise. Now, 2 days later I can finally sit up right and my body feels like it was in a car wreck. I'm going to call management after I post this review and inform them of what they did to me, but I want to make sure the public is aware. Villa Verone gave me food poisoning, they served me expired meat I wouldn't feed my own dog. This shows Villa Verones complete lack of integrity. I rarely write reviews, but the past 2 days of my life have been hell so I felt it necessary to go full Karen on this careless...
