TL;DR: I would recommend High Tide to anyone who likes a relaxed environment, great food, and domestic beer at a good price.
The bar serves traditional American bar food, with some additional comfort plates. I usually get a burger or the tuna melt. The food is all well-priced, and offers great taste and good portions. 3-5 beers are on draft, including craft, domestic, and import. The draft beers are served in a plastic cup, and would taste better in a glass. There is a large selection of bottled beer, including some unusual domestics like Bud Light Platinum, Iron City, and Yuengling Black & Tan. Alcohol is cheaper ($3.00 domestic bottles) than high-end restaurant bars on the strip, especially the Old Firehouse and Lakehouse Inn. Most of the bottles are domestics, with some imports.
High Tide is a small dive bar, with 5-10 booths and about 15 barstools. In the evening, it gets crowded quickly. Despite the crowding, the environment is very relaxed. The interior feels like a seaside shanty, something that not every bar on the strip offers. The temperature is cool; and there is wood paneling and nautical decorations, in addition to beer signs and flat screens. Mirrors help the feeling of crowdedness, as they give the feeling that the space is bigger. One pool table is open in the back of the bar. There is a jukebox available, and a space for live entertainers on some nights. For jukebox connoisseurs, mainstream rock and country are good choices.
The bartenders are always friendly and personable, and appear to enjoy working at High Tide. Food arrives in a reasonable amount of time, and the bartenders give each customer personal attention. I never have stood around waiting to place an order, even for a drink. Once, the bartender gave me five dollars to play nineties rock, which was a lot of fun.
The clientele is a spectrum of people just looking to enjoy a night out. There is no telling who someone will meet on a given night. Most go to explore Geneva-On-The-Lake. I have met investors, out-of-town tourists, and even seen a bridal shower during my visits to High Tide. Despite being a dive bar, I have never met an obnoxious patron or seen any aggressive behavior, even at night. The customers are generally cheerful, relaxed, and just want to have a good time.
High Tide has been a staple of the strip for years. I have always enjoyed the food, beer, and overall experience. I try to visit at least once each time I go to...
Read moreAbout a month ago I walked into the High Tide for breakfast (always stop for sausage gravy biscuits when I'm in town) I sat at table for about 10 minutes and no one came over. Trying to be helpful I walked up to the bar to place our breakfast order and the bartender walks past me and attends to a couple who walked in and sat down only a few minutes ago, they told her they weren't ready to order, so I raised my hand to get her attention and simply said "I am" she told me to "go sit at my table, she'll be over" so now going on about 20 minutes without any customer service she finally came over and took our orders. Ok, now we're making progress. About a half hour goes past, nothing. I know the rule, don't mess with the people who make your food, I live by that, so I didn't complain, until they came out and told us 2 outta 4 of our orders were out, we had to order something else. I guess that takes a half hour to figure out? Anyway still trying to be cool, I said ok, and we ordered something different. When the food came out about another half hour later, it was barely edible and the portions were minimum. Everything was burnt and the chips were all crushed and broken up. I tried to get the bartenders attention to come to our table but she had me on the pay no mind list (all the while she was whispering stuff the ponytail hat guy at the bar in front of us and everytime he'd either turn and looked at us or shook his head). So I walked up to the bar to show her the mess they gave me on the plate and told her "I'm not eating this" when I sat my plate down on the bar the onion rings were so burnt it broke in half and fell on the bar counter (no exaggeration I have the pictures to prove it). She finally pays attention to me and says "you don't have to talk to me like that and throw it at me!" I didn't know whether to laugh or throw my plate across the room. This lady, who I'm pretty sure was the owner, was trying to take it out on me like this whole thing was my fault. So I just walked out. Probably won't ever step foot in there again, which sucks because I've been going there for years, but my money...
Read moreIf you want to be disrespected from the bar manager who’s been drinking then this is your place to go!! We’ve never been there before, and we were celebrating our best friend getting married. The jukebox was fully open and half way through our experience, the younger bartender proceeded to come up to us and asked what music we like because they were taking over the jukebox. Clearly no one liked the music that was being played. If that’s the case then block it from your jukebox all together. The woman who was nice to us at first then proceeded to talk about us as we were leaving, was unprofessional and inappropriate, especially being a manager. 10/10 don’t recommend if you want to be bashed by a drunk manager who doesn’t accept all....
