We visited for the first time Memorial Day weekend ...on the positive side, it's on the edge of the craziness of a very busy road that was partying hard that weekend, so there was a little peace and not as great a rush. The kitchen was quick to turn out food in spite of it being a full house, so there wasn't too long a wait, and the food was pretty good.
The not so positive ...we both ordered two glasses of water and got charged for bottled water (I can't remember the last restaurant I've been at that wouldn't serve just water in a glass, and usually you're given a heads up first if it must be bottled, especially at 3.50 a pop); the waitress didn't seem to know any of the wines I asked for (an Italian restaurant's staff doesn't know what the Montepulciano is? The wine list isn't that extensive, or obscure) ...I had to point each one out on the menu for her to understand, only for her to tell me every time that they were out, so we gave up guessing what was still available and went without; and the tiramisu I ordered to go and ate right after we left was the worst I'd ever had in my life, no exaggeration. It was so heavy and tasted sort of stale, with almost none of that classic espresso flavor. I wouldn't eat it again even if it were free. It was that bad.
I hope future patrons finds these details helpful. For sure, the food is worth visiting for if you're in the area and you won't wait super long for it. The restaurant is small with very, very close seating and not really for any romantic dates, but they do get people in and out so getting a seat doesn't take too long. Be sure to look at the specials board above the cook station ...we did not notice it until after we had already ordered and the waitress neglected to mention...
Read moreA disappointing experience at Piero’s Pizza house.
When my friends and I went to Piero’s Pizza House in Geneva-on-the-Lake, we expected a fun, casual meal, but the experience quickly turned into a disaster. The moment we walked in, the server greeted us with hostility, practically barking at us to sit down instead of welcoming us. That was just the beginning. When we asked for water, they handed us plastic bottles instead of regular cups, which was strange, but we brushed it off. Ordering food became a hassle because they wouldn’t split our portions, forcing us to eat way more than we intended, leaving us miserably full. Then came the real shock—after we finished our meal, we got the check and discovered they wouldn’t split the bill. Nobody had warned us about this before we ordered, and we were caught completely off guard. Since we didn’t have enough cash between us to cover individual portions, I had no choice but to put the entire bill on my mom’s credit card, which was stressful and frustrating. As we left, thinking we were finally done with the terrible experience, the situation got even worse. The manager actually followed us—three minors—out onto the street, berating us for not tipping. He ranted about how workers need tips to earn a livable wage, completely ignoring the fact that we had already paid for the entire meal despite the awful service. He then aggressively told us never to come back, making the whole thing feel even more surreal. We chose not to tip because of how poorly we were treated, yet we still paid for everything, and somehow that wasn’t enough. The whole experience was nothing short of ridiculous—definitely one of the worst restaurant visits...
Read moreEven though the food tastes really good, the service makes it not worthwhile. Overpriced, rude service, confusing handwritten menu, incorrect order, very hot crowded room in Summer. Not welcoming to kids. Even though a small 1- room dining area of about 13 tables, there was only 1 server and several runners. Took way to long, probably more than 30 minutes for them to even take our order. It was me and 3 kids, who were in their seat and not being disruptive. Even my 8 y.o. noticed the rudeness and poor service and made a comment to me later. A couple arrived several minutes after us, were seated and order taken immediately. They were also served and eating before we even ordered. The waitress, owner's wife I believe, was annoyed by every question about the unclear menu choices, written on a board above the chef in the open kitchen area. Ultimately, 1 meal was totally the wrong order and she argued with me about it! In Summer, the crowded seating area was very hot, even with several fans blowing, no A/C. Place needs dusted and cleaned, the decor is nasty. They need to invest on improving their facility and customer relations. They tried clearing plates without asking, before they were finished. When the owner, I believe, came over to take plates, he asked how everything was... I don't usually voice negative thoughts when asked this, but I did this time out of annoyance. He pretty much said it was because I had kids with me! That is what he blamed the poor service on. I will never return, unless it's with a larger...
