My husband and I are from Grand Rapids. It took us two hours one-way to get to this white castle location. We wanted to create the famous movie of "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" and we did so spontaneously.
𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘀 The women's bathroom was absolutely disgusting. After a two hour car ride with no breaks, needless to say I was kind of disappointed. There was nasty toilet paper all over the floor and the actual toilet, so I did the classic squat technique to avoid touching anything. Sinks were clean, though. That was a surprise. Considering they had a full staff that was standing around doing nothing, I would have expected the bathroom, table and chairs to be clean.
𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 They have the Coca Cola machine where you can pick any different kind of drink there. My husband and I both got regular Coca Cola, small. It was decent. Tastes like your average fountain drink, so no surprise there.
𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 We ordered $50 in food! Twenty of the sliders with cheese. We didn't know that they come with pickles (we both despise them) however, that is our fault and not the fault of the restaurant. Two of the bacon and cheese sliders, two of the chicken and cheese sliders, a six ct of their chicken rings, and two medium fries.
The bacon and cheese sliders were a decent bite. The bread wasn't soggy, and the burger was cooked fully. Cheese was melted as well, however the burgers itself (and the bacon) we're lukewarm at best, as soon you'll find out is a common theme. 4/5
The chicken and cheese sliders with their six ct chicken rings were full of grease. The actual chicken had an aftertaste that lead me to believe that their oil from the fryer hadn't been changed in awhile. Cheese was melted, it was the classic American cheddar. The burger overall was just okay, and the bun was not soggy despite all of the grease. 3/5
The fries were your basic crinkle cut restaurant style. They were cold, and overly salted. I wasn't impressed. 2/5
Now is the big event, the 20 ct box of sliders. This was overall the biggest disappointment. We expected so much better quality (we both have never been to White Castle before). Every slider was greasy and the bread was soggy in parts. The burgers were on the edge of cold, and there were hardly any onions to be seen on any of the burgers. The pickles leaked into the half-melted cheese to create an overall depressing experience for such a hyped up restaurant. Subpar at best. 2/5
𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 Definitely will not be back here, but it was an experience. I expected that the food would be made fresh and hot for us, considering, as I've said before, there was a full staff of people in the kitchen who were doing nothing and we were the only people in the restaurant at the time. There was no wait on our food, which was pleasant, but I even told the front counter guy that we would wait up to an hour if it meant the food would be fresh. Cleanliness of the restaurant missed the mark entirely, which I can understand if they are slammed, but the staff had more than enough time to tidy up. Serious improvements need to be made at this...
Read moreIt had been years since I had White Castle, but the craving was to much to handle. After googling the nearest location and the 45 minute drive I was equal parts devastated and pleased to see their drive through was backed up all the way into the road. Devastated because the wait was going to be longer, but pleased because this was a good sign of delicious sliders. Over half an hour I sat and waited in line. Inching ever closer to my inevitable oniony victory. Whereupon my turn, I ordered uncontrollably, the words pouring out of my mouth with little regard to my own personal health. A crave clutch, a sack of fries, a large cheese stick, an order of chicken rings, two large sodas. My excitement was unbearable at this point. My order placed, my vehicle inching ever closer to beefy destiny, sweat begins to form at my brow with nervous impatience. Finally the moment I had waited so long for as I was greeted warmly at the window by what I can only describe as a burger goddess. Her radiant light so bright I could not make out her name tag. She apologized about the wait like a benevolent burger goddess but little did she know, she did not have to. There was no need to apologize as I know well that you cannot rush P E R F E C T I O N. I exchanged my tender for my goods, and proceeded to park. My fingers danced across the bags like Michael Flatley giving River Dance his all. Tearing into the crave clutch like a child opening a N64 on Christmas a tear formed in my eye. The bun gives way, squishing delightfully under my fingers as I squeeze the first slider out of its case. Two bites later I'm in the middle of a full blown existential crisis because these burgers have transported my back in time to when I had no cares in the world. My father looks down at me, pats me on the head and says he's proud of me. Flash back to my truck and I'm sobbing uncontrollably while I stuff the remaining food into my face hole. Worth every moment of the drive, worth every moment of the wait. Will be returning soon to enjoy more childhood nostalgia, in the meantime, keep killing it White Castle....
Read moreI would have given White Castle by my house one star two weeks ago when I was in line for over 15 minutes with only one car ahead of me. I seriously think they don't put your order on until you pay for it at the window if your drive-thru. It's just ridiculous. However I went in there last week but I was smart enough to go inside.. the girl that took my order was very friendly and got everything in order correct which isn't always the case when you get home with many of the fast food places around. So if I would have based my opinion on the visit last week I would have given them five stars. What the long wait in drive-thru with even only a couple cars is just ridiculous and it's been that way for the last couple years. There shouldn't be any more covid Staffing excuses which I could understand. Up until about a year ago they're always very friendly and the weight wasn't so bad in the Drive-Thru. Two weeks ago I actually left cuz I had an appointment to get to. It's the first time I left waiting in a Drive-Thru line after I made my order in over a decade. I imagine others have done it which is why they probably seem to wait to put your order on until after you pay for it at the window. Unfortunately I think that policy would cause even more people to drive away before their orders ready and drive through. It doesn't take that long to cook up some sliders in an order of fries. They were far busier when I got my last order from inside and it only took about 5 minutes. So drive-thru gets one star inside gets five stars which leaves an average of three stars. I don't think I'll be using drive-thru anymore if I want to go to White Castle inside is the only way to go for carryout. And as long as I'm going inside for carryout I'm sure the rating will...
