This place must have changed drastically for the worse in the last few years.
Took the wife here on the spur of the moment at 6:00PM on a Friday, we were seated and the waitress took our drink order. We went to the buffet and half of it was empty or just sauce scrapings left in the bottom of the pans, the other half did not look good. So we went back to the table and told our waitress we weren't interested in eating there and asked for the bill. She brought us a bill for two full buffets and drinks.
Okay, I understand the drinks portion as she had to pour them and bring them to us, but we didn't eat anything, we didn't take a plate even.
We took the bill to the counter and asked why we were being charged when we didn't eat anything and got arrogant look. The waitress chimed in that of course we have to pay because she sat us at a table. If we didn't pay they would call the police.
So, $20 we will be taking up with our credit card company, what a way to run a business. Never again Great Lakes Chinese, may you be shut down due to health code violations...
Read moreI Want to like this long time local place but despite the great reviews, it’s not what it’s is claimed to be. First, the place is filthy. Dust clumps hanging from the ceiling and vents, the lighting is nearly all burnt out; including in the kitchen area. The place is cold and there is a big plug-in electric heater in the lobby area. The food……something that is a safe staple at most Chinese restaurants like sweet & sour pork/chicken is always overcooked. Almost like the oil wasn’t hot enough and then the food was left in so long that it gets saturated with oil and the meat becomes tough and inedible. The crab ragoons have zero crab or imitation crab. Just a massive glob of sour cream. The egg rolls no longer have meat in them and are only cabbage. The only thing consistent about the food prep is the inconsistency. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and everything is prepared in a timely manner. It’s sad to see a once bustling and great place fall to this level. We keep giving them chances in hopes things will get better but it...
Read moreGreat chicken!
(Disclaimer: I don’t do Chinese much. I usually eat burgers.)
S18 Dragon And Phoenix (General Tso's chicken): This half was amazing! The chicken was well prepared and succulent. The sauce was not terribly spicy (I can do Habanero spicy), but it was piping hot temperature-wise.
S18 Dragon And Phoenix (hot & spicy shrimp): More than half of it was broccoli, beans, carrots, onions, and I managed to find three pieces of shrimp. The sauce was great, but not really spicy at all (I can do Habanero spicy). The shrimp was great. The other veggies were good, but the broccoli was EXTREMELY overwhelming and I couldn’t eat it all.
Rice: Standard, in a box, cooked well and hot.
Crab Rangoon: I had two (not pictured). These were great and fresh. I had one with and one without the sweat and sour sauce. The sauce really added to it.
Conclusion: I would certainly get the chicken and shrimp again, but watch out for broccoli.
