Stopped by here for a bite to eat on the way to Charleston. Upon walking in, there's no hostess or waitresses or any signage as to whether to seat yourself or not. We waited until someone said across the room you can just sit wherever.
The prices are very high, and the portions don't match. Expect to spend $100 for 3 people. I got the mahi sandwich and a bowl of clam chowder. We also got an appetizer of crab balls. Took a long time for food to be brought out even though they were not busy. The crab balls were pretty tasty and had a good amount of crab. The clam chowder however was NOT good. $8 a bowl and, not exaggerating, 60%+ of the bowl was chunked potatoes, and the flavor was stark and weird, not a lot of clams either. Was not a classic New England chowder and the flavor profile was tainted with weird tastes and just overall an off-putting soup. We mentioned this to our waitress who, only after we ordered told us that she did not like the soup but that everything else we ordered should be good. Wish that was said before we ordered it.
The mahi sandwich was okay. The buns were hard, and the fish was kinda dry and had no sauce on it, however they did provide a cup of garlic mayonnaise which, when slathered on did add some flavor but I was still chasing more. The fries that came with the sandwich were mediocre at best and cold, while the sandwich was warm. Another in our party had the same sandwich but got onion rings. They had a good flavor, we're a little greasy, but again, were cold. Seemed to be a shared experience between our entrees. Seems the kitchen can't properly time entrees and sides. Another party member had a burger and had the same experience with the bun but the meat was good. Asked for mayonnaise and had to ask 3 times before a single packet was brought. Stingy with the mayo huh?
Overall, can't really recommend this place as the food was overall subpar, the prices were very exorbitant, and the service was slow. If you're in Georgetown, pick somewhere else. But hey, at least you get a good view of the paper mill 😉
Edit: In response to the owners comment. No we did not ask the waitress about getting new sides, as we were just stopping by for a quick bite and had already waited a long time for the food, didn't want to wait even longer for sides to be replaced, and even then, it makes the main dish disappointing when you can't eat that with your sides, so by the time they would've come out right, the main dish would've been cold.
Besides, the food wasn't that great overall, so at that point we just wanted to eat what we had and get on with our day. Thanks for...
Read moreStopped in for lunch today with a friend to say hi to the manager Heather and to get lunch. Boy am I regretting that decision. We had to ask about seating because no one greeted us. We ordered lunch for our party of 4 after waiting about 20 minutes for the server to return, I’d share her name but she never shared that with us. I very specifically and firmly stated I have food allergies to tomatoes and repeated it, twice. She assured me she would take care of that, the only special request we had. Half hour later 3 of our 4 meals arrived. Guess what? Yep there were tomatoes on my sandwich! So 10 minutes later when someone, not our server, finally brought the 4th plate I explained that I couldn’t eat my food, because of the allergy I had already mentioned, she rolled her eyes, snatched my plate and went back to the kitchen. The server finally stopped back to check on us and tells me “I told her you had allergies and she said you probably just don’t like them.” Another 20-25 minutes go by and everyone else is done eating by then. A manager, Cameron?, comes up to the table to tell me new kitchen guy has repeated his previous mistakes and now they were making my food for a 3rd time. At this point I’m really trying so hard not to cause a scene. Add in that the server kept physically touching me every time she stopped by and I’m genuinely getting ready to flip. We had to ask for drink refills. Finally a plate arrived in front of me, 45-55 minutes after I ordered. Yay, no tomatoes! Boo it’s burnt and inedible. The server FINALLY comes back to check on me and I finally said enough! If you’re going to try to fix a problem you created maybe do better not worse. I calmly explained that I have 40 years in food & beverage and management of restaurants and this was not acceptable. They kindly didn’t charge me for my food, as if I would pay for that. I will not return or recommend this place to anyone. In fact I’m going to pop on over to social media and play town crier because this isn’t about the bad food. It’s the blatant disregard for serious food allergies and how potentially dangerous that could have been for me. Your establishment could have killed me because your staff thought I “probably just...
Read moreNormally the service is absolutely attentive. We sat at the bar. There were maybe 8 others sitting at the bar. The Bartender barely glanced at us, let alone acknowledged us, just took some orders for shots from one lady, then walked past us (again, no nod, no eye contact, nothing), put in her shot order, filled that order, delivered that order, back to ignoring us and going to the register area and chit chatted with a couple of guys. My husband finally asked if we could get some drinks. She gave us a glance that translated to us like we interrupted her and she looked annoyed. No smile ,nothing. I asked for a menu that barely got an answer. She brought us our drinks with as little interaction as possible. My husband even tried to converse with her when she cheerfully told another couple that just arrived that she was a Real Estate agent and could definitely answer any questions. My husband said to her, oh you are a real estate agent? That's pretty cool, my wife is one, too. The market is pretty tough right now, isn't it ? She just gave a cold reply: yeah I know she is, we talked before, I am doing good. She definitely made it clear that she was not interested in having any polite conversation, took our food order, which we now placed to go and another drink order. We decided to tip over 20% , even though her interactions with us were below par, especially when compared to the kind interactions she had with the other patrons , and my husband made sure to again thank her for serving us tonight. Hopefully that will buy us some kinder service from her next time. However, next time we will check if Hunter is there, as he is always attentive and caring. The food was awesome, but obviously a little cold by the time we got home. Again people, y'all may not have the same service experience as we did with this bartender and Buzz's is one of our favorite hang outs. She just made me feel unwelcomed and a burden, which had also changed the atmosphere and I definitely did not want to stick around longer than I had to. They are usually way better. So please do not let the 1 experience I had with 1 of their staff taint your decision to go. Ask for Hunter, he will make your experience an...
