I was surprised to stumble onto this museum on my recent visit to Georgetown. This is a town treasure, and I learned a lot about the history of Georgetown. The people working/volunteering in the museum and gift shop are welcoming and friendly. My main complaint is that there was very little emphasis or space dedicated to the role of Black people in the community, other than a small corner exhibit about the history of the rice industry, and a brief mention of a Black minister. Read moreThe museum and gift shop are filled with the nicest people and they are knowledgeable about town history. It's free and the staff are fully volunteer but they took extra steps to make the experience personable and friendly. They are invested in Georgetown's rich heritage and interested in teaching other's about it's impressive history. The museum is split into two levels. The first has a gift shop with handmade local art and such and books and a exhibit hall with a well written guide through the ages of Georgetown. The second is filled with artifacts from the town's history. They have a lot of stuff so take your time and learn something about the history of this historic, picturesque, and friendly...

The volunteers have done a truly amazing job of presenting both sides of the story, collecting artifacts, and we especially enjoyed learning how the area made its "comeback" as a tourist/hunting destination after the fall of rice. Lovely gift shop as well and everyone was just...
