What a gem. The entrance is hidden on the side of the building, but it sure was worth finding. I read reviews, and I base a lot of my choices when traveling on what others have to say (always taken with a grain of salt). It's got waterfront views, friendly staff, ambiance galore and great food. Both my partner and I had a fabulous meal. He ordered the flounder. It came out as two HUGE filets with hush puppies, chips, and slaw. I ordered the shrimp and scallops with mashed potatoes (loved them) and the fresh medley. My meal came with a salad as well. There was no room for dessert. The bus boy kindly rolled up the blinds for us so we could take advantage of the view. Michelle, our server, was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Overall, it was an excellent meal and an excellent experience. We would definitely go back! There is ample downtown parking, although there isn't a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. I have a bad hip, and I had no issues. Tourist tip: walk the boardwalk if you can. It's a romantic maritime experience. Great for pics. Also, there are lots of places to sit and an outdoor eating area if you're so inclined. There is an ice cream place literally right around the corner for a light dessert or to take on your walk and enjoy!

Enjoyed a very nice evening here. A very pleasant walk in the boardwalk while waiting less than 30 min for a table in a Friday evening. I enjoyed the New England Clam Chowder. Quite a large portion, so was able to share some tastes and still have plenty for myself. Our server was very sweet and attentive, even though being responsible for a large number of tables it seemed. My Joe's Stuffed Chicken was a bit bland for my taste, emphasizing the cream cheese more than the ham, but likely because I was hoping for something more like a Cordon Bleu. A young man with us thought it was very good. Reminded him of a chicken Kiev he had had before. Another had the filet with mashed potatoes and grits and thought all were wonderful. A child had the chicken fingers and fries and was very happy and contented.

This is my favorite place to eat. We drive an hour and a half to eat here about once a month. The food is good and they have the best flounder. My new favorite is the oyster tower, it has fried oysters with fried green tomatoes and they go well together! Mmm so GOOD. They also have daily specials during the week and if you follow them on Facebook they usually have the special for the day posted with a picture. It’s right on the water and has a boardwalk you can walk along and look at the boats coming and going. You can walk to many little shops like boutiques, art, antique, coffee, ice cream and my favorite is Sweeties. They have homemade ice cream and candy. You can walk to it in about 3 mins from The River Room. We even ride our bikes around town sometimes.

When it comes to food, I love all foods. But I'm very picky when it comes to restaurants. I usually modify EVERYTHING. Yes, I am that person. But I've also been a server, on & off, for over 14 years. It's a rare thing for me to try new places; it's even rarer when I am thoroughly & absolutely satisfied with every bit of my meal, & my boyfriend's! Haha.

We went to the River Room during lunch hours. It sits right by the water, with a fantastoc view. It's a very cute place covered with memorbilia, awards, articles, a lot of history, everywhere! Our server was very kind. She didn't really give any sort of introduction - have you been here before? Our specials are xxxx. We're known for xxxxxxx. She just went straight for the order. But it was lunch hours, so you can't really expect the full on dining experience....? Anyways -

Everything was delicious! My boyfriend had the fish sandwich, consisted of a white fish (can't remember what kind) that was amazing! It was a mild & sweet flavoured fish, with the (not too) salty & savory crust! The cornmeal crust paired perfectly with the fish! His father had the Shepard's pie and a NE Clam chowder. The pie had tons of veggies, he said. It was a great flavor, but too many vegetables and a bit on the smaller side. I had the chicken salad plate & hush puppies a la carte. The chicken was succulent & very flavorful, like it was roasted! It contained bell peppers and other vegs, which gave it a nice flavorful crunch. It was presented on a bed of fresh green leaf and spring mix, with green grapes, succulent cherry tomatoes, cottage cheese, a pickle, and a hard-boiled egg (by request). I don't know why, but it was honestly one of the best chicken salads I've ever had.

I will definitely be back!! With...

My family and I went to have a drink at the bar. When we arrived, we received not even an acknowledgement from the bar tender for nearly 10 minutes. I finally said “excuse me? Can I change the channel?” The gentleman at the bar told me coldly that I couldn’t change the channel. The channel was Fox News. I was going to change it to something politically neutral but I was told that I was not allowed to do that.

This felt very cold and unprofessional from the River Room

You’ve lost my money on that night which is disappointing considering we have traveled to the River room on-and-off for decades.

Edit:

Thank you for the response. I noted that the bar tender was busy, and have zero problem with that!At the same token, setting down bar napkins and letting us know that you’d be with us goes a long way! I get things get busy, and am more than sympathetic to these trials of a restaurant.

The River Room is a fine establishment which charges reasonable prices for high quality food. I wouldn’t expect anything less of that standard that you have built for yourself over the years as it pertains to the bar tenders.

I did consider that other patrons requested that channel, and it would certainly be rude!

However, after the conversation, I felt uncomfortable as the context came off cold to me.

Moreover, if other patrons requested Fox News, I think that context would be helpful to pass along!

Simply having the bar tender alert me to this detail would have been more than fine. Additionally, If I did change the channel and someone informed me they were watching it, I would change it back in a heart beat! I don’t care if it’s Fox News, NBC, PBS, CNN, HGTV, or sports. I think we can all co-exist.

Thank you...
