Sweeties Homemade Ice Cream & Sweets — Restaurant in Georgetown

Charming, beautiful Georgetown, S.C., is one of my favorite towns in the world. I get there as often as I can, especially for the annual plantation tour organized by members of the Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church. They do a phenomenal job every time. But now for Sweeties Sweets: I went in for my first time a couple of months ago thinking this would be your usual chain-type candy store. Wow, was I wrong! The chocolates are made in-house and are truly outstanding. They must use top-grade chocolate. I bought a big bag full and every, single piece was a delicious treasure. Giant peanut butter cups, brittle, pecan toffee, dark and milk chocolate with different kinds of nuts, something with caramel, more -- can't remember all of it as it quickly disappeared. We all still rave about it and I'm told by my family that I MUST order some by mail soon (when heat dissipates). I'm also a nut for homemade ice cream, so will have that the next time. Everything about Sweeties (a family owned business) is a WONDERFUL experience! If you've never been, you NEED to! Just walking into their store is nostalgic! The wood and glass door with the tinkling bell. The hardwood floors. The brick walls. The old-timey cases. But, the BEST part is their homemade chocolates, pralines, specialties, and of course their homemade ice cream!! They make everything by hand and with meticulous care from handed down recipes. My mom and I have gone there for years! Each time we open the door and hear the tinkle of the bell the aroma of chocolate welcomes us. As a Realtor, I often treat my clients with a visit there. I've tried several different types of candy here, from the chocolate covered peanuts to the delicious brittle, the ice cream to the toffee. Everything is absolutely delicious and decadent. They even have dog treats! I always stop in and buy my pups some good stuff when I pass through Georgetown. They absolutely LOVE them! The service here is well above par. One time when I got home with my purchase of praline pecans, I discovered that the nuts actually tasted quite stale. I reached out to the staff via facebook and they immediately gave me a store credit for my purchase and held it on file until the next time I could get there.
