We were given some Applebee's gift cards at Christmas this year and used them last night in Dawsonville. It had been a long time since I'd visited an Applebee's because on my last visits I felt the food wasn't worth my time. It was worth a try since it was basically a free meal, but it hasn't improved. You can cook better at home and save your money.
We arrived around 8:30. The restaurant is spacious but it looked quite empty, maybe eight tables of people at this hour on a Saturday night. Although there were few people eating, the floor was still littered with leftovers from earlier diners - straw papers and tortilla chips and other table trash. Why had no one swept up the mess? We walked over it on the way to our table which was still sticky after being wiped down - well, I hope it had been wiped down!
Our server was friendly and efficient. No complaints there. There was plenty of food and we did leave full even if the quality wasn't the best.
My husband ordered a tall beer and their current three course meal deal which included a salad, five boneless wings and a whiskey burger for $15.99.
I had a frozen "mangorita" drink with brisket tacos and the four cheese mac and cheese - the mac was an upcharge but I wanted to try it.
The best things we ate were the boneless wings. We had the sweet Asian chile variety and the crunch of the breading combined with the sweet and spicy sauce on the wings was great. My frozen drink tasted great too but had about as much booze in it as a gas station freezie.
The salad was basic, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and shredded cheese with a LOT of chopped cucumbers. The ranch dressing was good.
I have to say, where are the seasonings, Applebees?!
The burger was bland. Even with the whiskey sauce is was fairly flavorless and tough. My brisket tacos were OK. The meat was pulled beef rather than brisket chunks or slices. The barbecue sauce and onion tanglers gave it good flavor but the quality was lacking.
Finally, the mac and cheese was just ho hum. Penne pasta with shredded cheese and white sauce.
We didn't bother with dessert.
While I don't regret going to Applebee's last night, I won't be back. If I was spending my own money on that meal, versus using gift cards, I'd have been pretty disappointed. I remember Applebee's being the bomb back in the 90's. I don't know if I've changed that much or they have but it's no longer...
Read moreWorst experience ever. We sat down ordered our drinks and when she brought them back we ordered our food. 30 minutes go by no food, waitress never checked on us. Drinks ran out so we then had to hunt her down to ask for a refill. She said "ill get to you" ten more minutes go by. We hunted a manager and the hostess then chose to inform us that our table had been transferred to a different waitress. After that the other waitress finally shows up with our refills, tells us who our new waitress is and leaves. Someone from the kitchen finally drops off our food, then the manager finally finds our table apoligizes, tells us who our new waitress is but also says she cant find her. And she orders the refills on our unlimited food. 10min later our "supposed waitress" shows upat our table for the first time asking if we want to go boxes. We have only had our food for 10minutes!! Mine was cold by the way. We tell her no we just started eating. After that our refilled plates show up. 20minutes later after still not seeing that waitress i remember the computer thing has a supposed call server button. I hit that and after another 5 or so minutes she show up. We asked for to go boxes and our checks. We told her how it was supposed to be split since she wasnt the original waitress. 10 more minutes go by i see her go see some of her other tables about 3 times each while we were ignored. She finally brings us our checks and leaves again. The manager shows up and since we didnt know when we would see the waitress again we gave her our payment. The waitress comes back later with only my card and receipt. The others paid cash. And since she disappeared again we went and found the hostess and asked where the change was for the other two checks. So the waitress comes back with an attitude and says there you go. I must say i mormally always give at least 15% minemum tip. Not today!!! A waitress would have had to actually serve us in order to earn a tip, no to ignore us. Every other table was served. I did not plan on spending almost 3 hours in a restaurant being ignored by the waitstaff and...
Read moreDear Local “Neighborhood grill” All I wanted to do tonight was to enjoy time with my loved one and grab a bite to eat before heading home. I’m going to explain why this was not successful at your location and hopefully you address this so you don’t loose anyone customers. When you walk through the door of any establishment the first person to greet you should have enough respect not only for the customer but themselves to represent your establishment properly. We were told it was gonna be a 20-30 minute wait. No biggie …we are not inpatient people by far and waited like you do anywhere you go on a Saturday. It was not busy at all and my man noticed they had a lot of tables opened. As a former employee in the service industry I just figured you were short staffed somewhere and needed time to adjust. We were the last of the group of people to get seated and the hostess on shift at 5 pm today tried to sit us near the door were it was cold. i asked if we could go to one of the high tops at the bar cause there was no one sitting there and she said no. My man asked can we go to one of the other booths that were empty away from the door and the ignorant girl starts to get an attitude with him as if this request could shut Applebee’s down forever. The blunt person that I am asked “ is this a problem?” She roiled her eyes, made a noice and roughly grabbed the menus. Not telling us to follow her she then walks over towards the table and throws the menus down. Still standing at the front door my man and I are looking at each other like ((( Did that just happen))). She walks past us and never seats us. My man tells me come on and starts to head to that table. I go to sit down and look back in shock and she is pointing at us laughing as if we did something making a mockery of us. It was a Disgrace …. The fact we had to indoor any of this was mind blowing....
