This was different for us. We actually had to seek out this Cookout. We had heard about them from a friend. We had passed the billboards and spoke about it, but never had the right moment to try them out. So we made it a mission to find one. I will say that we were not disappointed. It was different in some ways, and typical in others. There was a line at the register where you order. There seemed to be just the one employee tasked with ordering. There was not a lot of room in the lobby area, so we were backed out the door. There was a pretty good crowd. So we got some information on how they operate and what they liked from the folks who were behind us. Since the food is prepared as per your order, you tell them what you want on your food, rather than what you don't like most restaurants. They had a deal for about $7, where as you get a main item like a burger, two hotdogs or such, that comes with two side orders (or doubled up on one side). The sides were not overly large, but fit the bill. It also came with a drink. Although we opted for a shake, which seemed to have an up charge, understandably. Two meals with the shake upgrade cost us less than one meal with just a (medium) drink (they don't have small anymore) and an extra burger at McDonalds quite recently. And McDonalds didn't taste anywhere near as good. Now this was not in Georgia and may not be a true comparison. But we took notice. The shake Cookout made, was quite good. But as the folks behind us had warned us, you probably will need a spoon. I watched another man eating his shake with a folk! I could use a straw from the start, but you had to work at it. The spoon was much easier to start with. The restaurant was surprisingly clean considering the crowd that just went through. By the time we were done eating, the place seemed almost empty. But then the next wave out the door arrived. This was an interesting experience. So we made way for the next wave. The wife did find the cheese quesadilla to be a little too spicy for her tastes. I am a lot more tolerant to spicy food, and tried it. Yes it was pretty spicy. But I could have eaten it. The rest of the food was good. Probably not the best I ever had, but quite good. And of course, the shake was excellent. All in all Cookout lived up to the hype we had. But not so in every area. But for the most part, we would and will stop in again. Unlike most fast food places, that are not fast food anymore. It was actually a really good meal at a reasonable price. And our food being fresh prepared for us, seemed to take less time than the fast food...
Read moreVery disappointed in this location. Looked cool on the outside and when I saw the double drive-thru it gave me Portillo's or Chik Fil A vibes. Waited in drive thru line for 15 minutes, took order, I'm not sure if she was quiet or their speaker sucked but I couldn't hear anything. Got the BIG double cheddar style and Cajun Grilled Chicke with Cajun Fries and a Coke. Got to the window 10 minutes later. I gave them my card and they said they don't accept American Express.. Paid cash instead. Then she came back to the window 5 minutes later to tell me that they didn't have grilled chicken and asked if we wanted something different or wanted to wait. I asked how long, she went to check and came back a minute later to tell me 30 minutes. I almost asked if I could at least pick out the chicken that they were about to butcher fresh but decided just to get the spicy chicken instead. She came back 5 minutes later with the food. We pulled over so I could eat before getting on the highway. The burger had 2 small burnt patties comparable to Krystal next door. If that is the BIG ones then then they need to charge less. I looked at pictures afterwards and no they just charged me for BIG ones but gave me the little burnt, over salted regular ones. One quarter sized piece of iceberg lettuce was on the burger and cheese sauce. I thought it would be actually a slice of cheddar.. The chicken sandwich was soggy, the tomatoes on the sandwich was bigger than the actual chicken patty and it wasn't even crispy, that was the item I waited on.. Fries were okay and the best thing besides the coke. My wife got taco bell and my grand daughter got starbucks and I was envious of how happy they were with their service and products, going to both of those locations took less time than this place. Hopefully this review helps some people make the right decision not to go here and wait over 30 minutes for bad food and service. Worst place I have been...
Read moreWe were traveling together as a family in 3 cars when we decided to stop at Cookout for lunch. The idea was to drive through and get right back on the highway. There was one car ahead of me in the line but they were already at the window, so I pulled right up to the speaker and heard someone mumble, "just a minute." I literally sat there for 10 minutes trying to be patient. Then she finally took my order and was very rude in her tone and acting like I was bothering her. I pulled to the window and paid, then waited at least 20 minutes for my food. When it was finally given to me, it was completely wrong!! I asked the lady about what I had ordered and she said, "I didn't hear that." There was no apology, no offer to make it right, nothing! I said, "Don't worry about it. I don't want to wait for another hour anyway!" We then drove around to wait for the other 2 vehicles in our group and it took another 30 minutes for them to get through! Then I find out that their orders were all messed up and wrong as well!! A couple of them went inside to try to get it straightened out. They stood there for another 20 minutes waiting and there was no one else in line!! If I could, I would rate this place zero stars, but one star is the lowest available to use. I have never seen such rude, disrespectful behavior from someone in the service industry!! We love Cookout in NC, but would not recommend anyone to eat at Cookout in Brunswick, GA!!!
Update I responded to corporate at their invitation below. They handled it professionally and courteously, apologizing for the poor service. They also promised to mail me some coupons for 4 cookout trays, which I can redeem in my hometown. However, I still would not recommend this particular franchise location unless some employees were let go or seriously retrained in customer service, attitude, and just filling orders correctly. Thank you for your attempt to make it right,...
