Me and my group of 4 friends came to dine in at denny’s on 4/20/24 probably after 10-11PM or so. we were waiting in the front and when finally a tall white male was trying to assign us a table of 4 and we corrected him, that it was 5 of us not 4. he then begins to proceed to mock us with some hand signs but we really didn’t pay attention to him cause we were just so confused on why he wasn’t giving us our table. he finally walks us to the tables and even lets us choose which table we want and we get sat down, me and my friends are conversating and laughing a bit and the waiter finally comes with the menus and silverware. as he made it to the table he raises his voice at us to “shut up” and again me and all of my friends look at each other confused thinking he is going to be one of those waiters that jokingly mess with you but we thought wrong. after he said that, i tell my friend to shut up in a sarcastic voice and after i said that he slams the menus on the table and says he’s done with us and storms away into the kitchen. he then proceeds to tell another waiter(black female) to deal with us cause he’s done and he’s not dealing with “that”. the other waiter then comes to take our orders, she takes our orders and we get our food and eat normally, throughout the process she was very nice and kind up until the bill. she said we all need to add $3 to each of our checks that we were all going to pay separately. I was confused on why she said that but I realized it was probably for tip but a tip is earned not asked for but whatever. I was first in line to pay and I paid for mine and one of my friends order which were $21 and $17 but somehow the total came out to $47 which we were confused about. I regretfully tipped the waiter an extra $20 in cash and left her in shock as she said “oop” when she received the bill from my hand. I really regret tipping her anymore money from the money she already tipped herself just to find out she also took $3-5 out of all my other friends checks. As I waited for all my other friends to pay, a blacked out police pulls into the parking lot, I am not sure why but looking at the way we got treated, I think the staff called them thinking we weren’t going to pay even though we all paid and even had to pay extra just cause the waiter said so. This was a really terrible first and last experience and I hope dennys check on who they hire so they don’t lose any other customers or make any of them feel uncomfortable. Some other side notes I’d like to include is that the food wasn’t that good neither, felt very dry. The first waiter that stormed out on us also kept staring back at us from the kitchen and would always ask our waiter if we were being rude to her or anything. I’m not sure what we did to be treated like this, probably just cause we were a group of...
Read moreI am a 64yo female who was alone in the Denny's restaurant on Buford Hwy in Norcross, GA with 2 employees and no other patrons. I was psychologically accosted there for complaining that the hamburger on my patty melt was scattered in pieces all over my plate. My job requires me to be firm but polite when facing hostility, so I was calm and almost apologetic when I motioned the server over to my table in order to explain that there was a problem. It was bad enough that I was treated like a senile old person (referring to me as mama in every sentence and asking me several times during the encounter if I had a problem with my hearing) but when the discussion took a sudden turn in a racist direction (on his part) then I had had about enough. If racism was involved then it was not initiated by me but the other way around. The easy and proper solution to the problem would have been to replace the burger in a polite manner, like what most places of business do under similar circumstances, but that was never offered. Frankly, I was flummoxed and confused to begin with as to how the burger got so badly crumbled up. I was essentially told to shut up and eat it. So I hobbled it together and ate in silence, payed my bill and left. Sad part is that I was treated with the same sort of contempt the first time I visited there. Regardless, the servers behavior this time was way over-the-top and radically inappropriate and it is my belief that he felt comfortable enough, with the restaurant being empty of other patrons, (with the female cook standing silently at his side) to engage in such malice and out-right contempt towards me over such a minor and easily remedied situation. I travel for a living and I have never encountered anything like it. I am a quiet person with a calm demeaner, I possess an easy-going and friendly personality, I am generally nonconfrontational, preferring a collaborative and peaceful approach to conflict resolution. I have reported the incident to Denny's corporate office. It is really to bad that I have been...
Read moreMy family paid Denny’s a visit August 18th 2018, our food was great, our waiter was super nice, I left a cash tip. The tip wasn’t much granted, but it was all the cash I had on me that day. We paid our tab with a debit card, I kept my receipt. A few days later, upon balancing my checkbook, I noticed the balance charged to my bank account was NOT the amount I paid. They added a tip onto my tab and charged it to my bank account, on top of the cash tip I left. I don’t know who is responsible for that. What I do know...I called 4 times the day I realized the tip was added. Never got to speak to the manager, he was always to busy. I called the following day, Toby (the manager) said he got my messages but was to “tired” to call me back. I’ve since called customer service who said it would be taken care of. A week later..I called customer service because it hadn’t been taken care of in the time she stated it would. I’ve called the franchise owner corporate office and left a message. I’m actually not expecting a call back as I have yet to receive a call thus far. It seems my only option may be to contest the charge through my bank who will cancel my debit card and issue a new one taking up to 14 days, leaving me cut off essentially from my account for 2 weeks. All because someone added a tip to my tab, and no one seems to think it’s urgent or important enough to refund the added on tip amount.
How many people throw their receipt away and never pay attention? How many people have been ripped off this way and never caught on? How many customers are ignored when they catch the fraudulent activity? I hate to think this way, but it’s been a couple of weeks, seems like plenty of time to set the situation straight. Beyond poor customer service. Always write your final total down in the slot provided on your receipt, keep your receipt, and keep an eye on your account.
It may be a few dollars here and there, but it’s the concept, it’s unethical. It also adds up if it’s happening to...
