Super long, but super annoyed. We are Gnats repeat customers, and have been for quite some time. My family vacations here every summer, and my husband and I live here full time and enjoy the outdoor eating, often bringing friends from out of town to enjoy the deck and fried pickles. However, we went to Gnats for my birthday last night and my husband had called earlier in the day to let them know we would have a larger party and asked what they thought the wait would be at around 6. The guy scoffed and said, " Its a Monday, it wont be an issue." We said alright, and decided to go here instead of a place that takes reservations. Huge mistake. We waited outside for over an hour and a half, and watched as parties who came after us sat, ate and left. We let them know first thing that our party had shrunk and we wouldn't be needing such a large table. We waited, and waited, but finally someone came out and asked if we were the party of 9. We said yes, she looked confused, left and never came back. We continued to wait, and finally started asking what was going on. They told us they gave our table away on accident but were getting one ready now. 15 minutes later, still no table. We went back in and asked what was going on and were informed there were other parties ahead of us, but my sister politely refused that answer and told them we've been here over an hour and 15 minutes. They shuffled around, and told us one would be ready soon. Waited another 15 minutes and decided mutiny was the answer, so we started to walk inside to create our own table with the 6 that were completely empty on the patio. They informed us that table was for the other larger party (who arrived at least 30 minutes AFTER us). They created a new table, and we were hopeful things would get better. The server informed me that if we would have told them we were a smaller party than originally stated, it wouldn't have taken so long. Duly noted, even though we mentioned that , I dont know, 4 or 5 timesđ She then asked how many checks, my sister in law said 2, and then they ordered their drinks. My dad then went to order his and told her, it's one check, he would pay for the table. The server stopped my dad, informed him that she was taking orders based on checks and went on to ask my husband and I what we wanted to drink. My dad again told the waitress that it's one check and he would be paying for the table, no need to separate. She rolled her eyes, scratched up her order paper and said, "I was just doing what they told me down there" with serious attitude. Anyways, we all ordered thinking that with a half empty restaurant, the wait time for food wouldn't be so bad. WRONG AGAIN. Yall, we arrived at Gnats at 6:30, got seated at 8, got food at 9 and were not able to leave until 9:45. We had 3 young babies, all screaming or throwing tantrums at this point because lawd knows it was WAY past bedtime. They kept confusing tables, bringing us the wrong food, sauces we didnt ask for, drinks that weren't ours (while our own drinks sat empty and condensating so that everything on the table was soaked). My brother in law got his Cuban sandwich, 15+ minutes after everyone else's food, after being told, it's on it's way 3 times. We brought a cake, which we planned on celebrating with, but by the end of this ordeal, I asked to have it back because this place didn't deserve to celebrate my birthday with međ We will NEVER return. I'm good for a bad night, because I get it, staff issues, summer night, bugs, hot air, whatever. But lawd have mercy, it was so bad, so, so, SO bad. I'm embarrassed for them, as literally everyone working was WAY off their game. So disappointing, and I'm sad to lose one of our favorites off of the island...
Read moreDisappointed. Server clearly did not want to be there and pretty much ignored us. Food had no salt or seasoning and was ok. Waitress seated us and left. She came back with one drink and left again. There were 6 of us, and we never heard her ask if we wanted anything. So the one person who heard her before she left got a drink. She then left and never asked if anyone else wanted a drink after dropping off one drink. Never had this experience before. Also we were sat at a table for 4 with 6 people, so we were all having to figure out how to even situate comfortably. 2 children in group so not like we were giant people or anything. The waitress had to be flagged down to get our drink order, then flagged down to order food and was walking away again when only two people had ordered. Clearly she did not care or have any personality or communication skills. Maybe not the best choice for a server. 1 1/2 hours later, we were just trying to get our bill and leave. That took about 20 minutes plus. As a local I will not go back. Maybe she thought we were just one time tourists. Either way we should have had respect and decent food...
Read moreI came to this place with a group of about 10 people. I ordered one long island and chicken tenders. I ate my meal and paid 15 dollars and some change. All was fine until my waiter actually came to our group while we was leaving and was yelling in a very disrespectful tone "who is Cameron?" She then ask me "was something wrong with your food?" I said no and she asks "why didnt you tip?" I told her I am on a budget and she says "I only get paid 2 dollars an hour". She then proceeds to go to her fellow employers pointing at me on my way out saying "he is the one who didnt tip". First of all, I'm wondering how does this woman have her job. If we would have known how disrespectful and unprofessional this employee was we surely would have not given any business. My group wishes they wouldn't have tipped after that incident. We will not be going there again. I understand to tip but I also consider the fact if I made the waitress work or not which in this case she brought me a plate made by the chefs and a long island tea. Nothing more. Very unprofessional and I hope that's not the way this restraunt allows their...
