We usually never go anywhere but Cielo Blue or La Parrilla. Those are our go to Mexican places. Sometimes Los Magueys (but can be rowdy at times) My family and I needed to go into Kroger and decided to eat first and thought - hey let’s try this place as we’ve never been and we’re already here at Kroger. Why not? It’s now obvious why not. It was Me and my two children. One ordered the kids chicken fingers and rice. The other opted to share lunch nachos with me. They had water and I had a sprite. We ordered a small cheese dip as an appetizer. The bill was $31! 👀 Turns out the limes I requested for my sprite (That I literally never get charged for at Cielo or La Parrilla - no matter how many times I request more) was $1.25...Ok, would have been nice when I requested them that there would be an upcharge! The chips my children were the first to note that “Daddy these taste like they were bought from a store”. They were right. Zero oil. Dry and looked, felt and tasted store bought bagged chips. The orange colored rice was horrible per my child and I tried them and it tasted like stale bland tasteless mush. The bright orange color was gross. The trio nachos $12.99 for lunch had barely any shrimp or steak but some chicken, but that was tough and bland as well. I can not recommend this establishment at all. Now we know why we never tied this place. We heard it was bad. Sure...
Read moreIf I could give no stars, I would! We had a family gathering here last Saturday which were 17 of us. When my husband and I arrived, everyone was settled and had drinks. It took the waitress 15 minutes to even come ask us if we wanted anything to drink, mind you there were only TWO other customers in the restaurant the entire time. With it being dead on a Saturday night that just goes to show you what a great place it is... It took them 30-45 minutes to even come take our food orders. Like I said, two other customers the whole time! They seem to disappear in the back for a while clearly not doing their jobs. The food came out rather quickly which was shocking considering everything else. We ordered the fajitas for two which were okay but not great. Most of everyone else wasn’t satisfied with their food either. The waitress also kept bumping into my MONTH old niece and seemed like she was doing it on purpose since she never once apologized... they really didn’t even try to give good service at all. It took forever for them to get our checks too. They only have one person bathrooms and don’t even have a changing table for the baby. Music outside is incredibly loud as if they are trying to attract people but it’s really obnoxious if anything. If you want to attract customers, try better service!! We will never...
Read moreMexican restaurants are a dime a dozen in suburban Atlanta and generally serve the same 10 ingredients arranged in various ways + rice and a mess of refried beans.
Los Portales isnt remarkably different in this manner, but it has a lot of personality. The owner was our server. It started with a lesson in rolling our R’s to produce an accurate “gracias!” He made marionettes dance on our table, delighting our child.
We ordered the Mexicano burrito, steak fajitas, and kid’s quesadilla with broccoli, and while we said no thank you to queso, the owner soon showed up with a bowl on the house.
We also ordered what turned out to be strongly poured margaritas, and he soon brought a pair of free shots to the table.
It didn’t end there. He was surprised when we asked for the spiciest sauce they’ve got, and served us a bowl each of habenero sauce and tomatillo sauce.
In the end, the owner and his wife and my partner all shared another shot of tequlia, while I enjoyed fried ice cream with the kiddo.
The food was all great, and the dining area and kitchen were really clean. Noticably unusually clean.
It was a great meal for a Monday night, and we...
