I've been in Metro Atlanta long enough to remember the very first Mellow Mushroom, and out of a variety of literally hundreds of their pizzas from several of their locations, I haven't had a bad pie even once. If you're used to eating pizzas from nationwide chains, you're going to be in for a treat! If you have a local, non-chain pizzeria where you usually order, you're also going to be in for a treat! This crust is crisp and crusty in the center of the pie and the outside crust is crispy on the outside and spongy on the inside just like it the perfect pizza's crust should be! (I'm not talking to you Chicago pie fans-lol!). It has the right amount of lightly charred areas and they must have the absolute best pizza ovens in Metro Atlanta! The red sauce is just right. They know exactly the right amount to put on as you know it's there and it enhances the taste of each bite, but it isn't so overpowering that it takes away from the flavors of the toppings ! The toppings! They use fresh toppings that they must prep each day because they're always so fresh. I love mushrooms and they have both fresh white buttons AND fresh baby portobellos! Their meats are high quality and so, so much better than the usual chain pizza stores. While I usually like to order a custom pizza to my specifications, I have tried several of their House special pizzas. If you're a fan of a West Coast chain's BBQ Chicken w/red onion pizzas, you have to try MM:s Funky Chicken. It'll become your go-to and you'll soon forget about cpk. Seriously! They don't offer delivery directly through them, but they are available on UEats. They have salads available and each type comes with the same fresh veggies they use to top their pizzas. They have a variety of high quality dressings and the apple vinaigrette is delicious to me and I'm usually a creamy-only person. If you or someone or people you're dining with are vegans, THIS is one of the few places, especially in the suburbs, that has pure vegan options! No more asking to omit the mozzarella because MM has VEGAN cheese! They offer a gluten-free crust option, on all sizes, as well. I have not tried the GF crust and cannot offer input. They have pizzas of several sizes and can accommodate one for a family down to individual pizzas (perfect for one or great for two to share w/ a salad or appetizer). They do have wings, but I cannot comment as I've not had those, but they offer mild, hot, Thai chili or naked AND offer regular, crispy or extra crispy. You can get mixed, all drums or all flats. Wings come with celery, carrots, and blue cheese, ranch or both.
This is quite literally the best pizza In/Outside the perimeter, and honestly, they could charge substantially more for the pizzas they serve. I know MM will not disappoint!
EDIT: The day I wrote the above review, it made my mouth water and I decided to order MM thru Uber. I completely changed my usual small pizza w/a salad and instead, went w/an order of "pizza bites" w/Beer cheese and red sauces for dipping. I figured if they were anything like their pizza crusts, they had to be great! (EDIT: their pizza bites are DELICIOUS . Literally , better than anywhere else! They must have a pizza oven that gets incredibly hot! The Beer cheese sauce that comes with them is very cheddar-y. I don't usually like "runny cheese" like nacho cheese at movie theaters, but this is not movie theater cheese. It's actually quite yummy. There's an option to have both a side of the beer cheese and the red pizza sauce -- get both!! They dust the side of red pizza 3w/parmesan. I'm eating these pizza nuggets as I type. I'm so pleased I ordered them!!? I will update in a day or two for the wings: In addition to the pizza bites, I also ordered 10 wings. MM provides an option to sit the wings into 5 + 5, meaning I was able to request 5 naked, extra crispy and 5 Thai chili extra crispy. I'll be back soon with a wing review?
The wings are fantastic! I like extra crispy wings, & they were STILL CRISPY even w/Thai Chili sauce on them! ...
Read moreWe used to enjoy MM and the one on Powers Ferry became our favorite one to visit, but the past 3 times has been rather disappointing. The first time we thought it was an off night, the second time we started to wonder, and now we’ve decided after this last time we’re done trying. We ate at the restaurant hoping it would be better than the past two to-go’s, but alas, it was not.
I cannot stand it when a pizza has a slimy, wet feel and all of the ingredients just slide right off. We ultimately didn’t eat the pizza and decided we just wanted our money back rather than having them make us another. We made this decision because our past two orders had the exact same issue and I decided it was a trend.
Our server was nice, but kinda ignored the fact that we 1) didn’t eat the pizza and 2) didn’t want to box any of it up. I usually don’t ask for things to be removed from the bill, but paying $25+ for an uneaten pizza wasn’t sitting well with me and we had ordered other food and drinks items, so it wasn’t like the bill would’ve been zero dollars.
I did ask the server if she would remove the pizza from the bill as we didn’t eat it at all. She seemed a bit stressed about the request (it WAS dead in there and If I were in her position I’d probably be concerned about my tip going down because the check total was now less, but FYI we did tip her 20% and we based it off the original check total which was like $75).
Anyways, she got her manager. The manager came over to the table, asked us what was wrong with the pizza, we told her the aforementioned issues. She offered to remake it. We declined and repeated that we’d like it removed and thanks for the offer. We were already tired and it was like 9 pm. She stares at us, repeats, “so you just want me to remove it from your check?” We again say, “yes please.” And then she walks off. The whole exchange felt like we were the jerks for not liking the pizza and not wanting a new one.
Maybe the manager was just in a mood and was extra tired because she’s pregnant. Maybe it had nothing to do with us, but either way it was not customer focused.
Look, I get it. Food is expensive, restaurant margins are tight, and every loss is a loss. BUT, eating out is expensive and MM had two strikes before this third one. Our previous two orders had the exact same pizza issue. Wet bottom, ingredients and cheese sliding off, and overall disappointing. Neither of those two times did we say a single thing, take the pizza back (to-go orders), and even decided to give it another go. This was the only time I decided to say, “nah, I’m good.”
Long story short, we won’t be eating at MM again and we’re bummed about that because it was hella close to where we live.
My three stars for service is because I’m conflicted on how to rate. Our server was friendly overall, but ignored our dislike for the pizza, didn’t offer a solution, brought the check hoping we’d pay for the entire thing, and then the whole manager experience was poo.
*For informations sake, even after the pizza was taken off the bill our check was still $60ish after tip. Wings, small cheese pizza for our daughter, and...
Read moreI ordered a sandwich and a calzone 7:20 pm in sunday 7/10. The internet said it would be ready at 8:30. I gave them a little extra time in case it was busy. When I pulled up and called the restaurant (per the instructions) I was met with a long hold and then a rude "Yeah?!" I told them I was here for a Togo order, my name and lot number. Then waited another hour before going in to check. They couldn't find my order and ask several times. When I finally received the food (9:44p.m.) it was cold and gross like it had been sitting there for a while. If you are too busy to handle to togos it's fine. I understand in house guests take priority but just let me know it's going to take longer. I would have come back some other time with no ill will. I understand its a struggle to manage in house and togos when you are busy but dont throw my experience into the blender just to make a buck right now. SHUT DOWN ONLINE TOGOS!!!!!! After this nonsense I won't go back and I'll tell anyone who'll listen not to bother with mellow mushroom in Marietta. I usually get mellow mushroom 2 or 3 times a month where I work in Atlanta but I just won't go back for a while out of principal. Plenty of pizza joints! Can't wait to try a place that wants me to have...
