Very interesting coffee shop to say the least
Pulling up you would think it’s just a coffee shop with maybe some pastries/ sandwiches, but they have a WIDE variety of items on the menu.
They have boba tea, smoothies, ice cream, breakfast sandwiches/ croissants/ burritos, pastries, yogurt parfait, lunch sandwiches/ wraps, hot dogs, paninis, Cuban sandwiches, chicken teriyaki banh mi and so much more.
I ordered their Spanish latte with caramel! It was very delicious! Light in sweetness and very smooth and frothy.
The atmosphere felt very oriental like I was in a Chinese restaurant. Not sure if the owners are Chinese and that was the vibe they were going for OR if this was a Chinese restaurant previously and the coffee shop moved in, but either way it was a nice switch up from the typical coffee shop look!
I took a star off, because it took about 8 minutes before an employee even looked over and acknowledged me at the counter. They were making drinks and food, so I TOTALLY understand being busy, but you can still have good customer service by acknowledging customers. Just a simple, “Hello! Welcome in. I’ll be right with you in just a minute.” is an easy way to make a customer feel welcomed and seen. I used to work in the restaurant industry for 6+ years. Greeting customers is a high priority and can leave a good or bad taste in someone’s mouth before they even try food/ drinks.
I didn’t try any food this time, but will definitely be back again and...
Read moreI must preface this review with the fact that I am most definitely a coffee snob...
GREAT ATMOSPHERE: clean, spacious, inviting, and somewhat modern.
GOOD LOCATION: lots of businesses and residences that have been in need of a good cup of joe since the previous local coffee shop was bought out and closed down years ago.
GOOD JOE: again...coffee snob here. The coffee is pretty good and I imagine will only get better over time. Definitely worth paying for. On top of that, they have "freshly" roasted whole beans available for purchase. IMO this is a must. These beans are from another company, but that’s no knock on this shop. Unfortunately they aren't that fresh, which is typical when selling another company's beans. Menu and whole bean choices are a bit small, but not worth losing a star.
OK PRICES: prices are about the same as Starsucks, but you’re paying for a better product. Still a bit steep IMO. Worse are the bags of beans. These are 3/4 pound bags at full pound prices... this alone is almost worth losing a star to me. Overall prices are ok, because there are no neighboring competitors and consumers are used to these higher prices.
Since there are no half stars, I dropped 1 star for the combination of prices, small selection, and not so freshly roasted beans. As a 4-5 star shop, I highly recommend trying...
Read morePerks has such an amazing atmosphere! The owner, John, is very friendly, warm and welcoming. As are the staff! We have always been greeted upon entering the shop. The service is quick and easy. They have a variety of espressos to choose from, a beautiful deli refrigerator full of pastries and savory food items. They also have a wide range of non-espresso beverages and snacks! They place emphasis on supporting local companies like Rev Coffee. They also brew Caribou Coffee, one of our favorites!! The atmosphere is very urban and relaxed. With subway tile, wood and metal finishes, it is the perfect vibe! I am a graduate student and enjoy going to Perks to study. It is a quiet atmosphere with great ambiance. In addition, something I really appreciate are all of the outlets around the shop. It makes it easier to spend a length of time at the shop to get work done! They provide free refills on their black drip coffee (yes, it's true!!). One last thing, they have a 20% student discount here (SCORE!!), thanks, John!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Very...
