So, we decided to give this place a try since it is a seafood market in addition to being a restaurant and one would think that means they would have good seafood. Bad assumption on our part. So lets do the whole experience... First you arrive and there is a line of people going out the front door... good sign? No, they are just THAT SLOW. You wait in line to order and prePay (plus tip) then go sit at your table. OK, whatever... (reason they want you to pre-pay? hmm...)
So we order our food, Lemon Pepper Swordfish, 3 captain combos (pick 3 seafood + 2 sides) and Clam Chowder for each of us (4 in total). Then grab a table and go fill our own drinks at the station. Self Service is good service? (Irritating since I stupidly paid tip up front as well...)
Now to the food... First the appetizer... super thick Clam Chowder... I thought it was good, wife thought it was terrible. Her side salad came out and it was a basic as possible... Lettuce, tomato and prepackaged cheese shreds...
That was about 15 minutes after we ordered (45+ minutes to get through aslow line to order)... We polish that off and they come out and tell us that they don't have swordfish and what do we want to substitute.. wife would have preferred a refund at this point... the chowder and salad already ruined her mood. So we substituted a lesser fish (no offer to refund the difference in price). They bring out the Captain Combo's and they were meh at best. Clam strips are same as you get everywhere (except one place on a pier in California that actually breads and cooks their own strips :| mmm... memories..), but they managed to screw those up too. I like the prepacked clam strips and do not expect anything other than they be cooked right. These were cooked too long and/or and allowed to cool. Then the fried shrimp... just not good and kinda chewy. The fried fish we had with it was chewy and just not good, think it was cod. Other son got the Stuffed Crab.. it could have been straight from Ingles frozen food section, nearly certain it was not made on site. And it was not good/mostly bread. My 'cheese grits' had a hint of cheese flavor. Fried Okra was inedible. NOW the wife's lemon pepper replacement fish (Mahi) comes out... apparently it was brined in salt, since that was all you could taste... Sent that back and had another sent to us. The potato that came with it.. overcooked, brown inside with individual packed butter and sour cream... Come on folks... SO.. all in all, just go to Longhorn's next door, at least you know what to expect and it won't come out served on a metal tray with wax paper and silver wrapped in a plastic bag. I expect more from a $150 meal, but maybe I just have reasonable expectations. The...
Read moreMike’s Seafood was a very interesting experience in our trip to Blairsville. They have a very extensive seafood menu, and everything was fresh.
They close at 2PM and reopen at 5pm. By the time we got there (around 4:30) there was already a line outside so we all had high hopes.
It’s counter service instead of table service, so that means you order and pay ahead and seat wherever you want to. They have a self service drink station as well.
We ordered multiple dishes including:
Fried Pickles Fried Flounder Sandwich Fried Lemon Pepper Mahi Mahi Sandwich Grilled Scallops Fried Oysters
The food was okay and that’s where it became disappointing. The restaurant was nice, and clean, service was great, menu/food options excellent, but once we got our food it was just meh. Fresh? Yes! But flavorless and insipid.
Hush puppies are free upon request so take advantage of that!

Read moreI ate here with a large party for my mom's birthday and nearly everyone who ordered shrimp was extremely disappointed. My sister and niece ordered the coconut shrimp and inside the breading was raw grey shrimp. It doesn't take long at all to properly cook a shrimp so there's really no justification for serving people undercooked seafood. As far as the rest of the shrimp orders, several of us ordered shrimp on the side with our meals and all but one of us sent ours back because of the bizarre mushy/mealy texture of it. I've never bitten into a shrimp that had the consistency of a rotten apple before, it was awful. Just peeling the shell off of one shrimp left oatmeal looking stuff on our fingers, it was disgusting and inedible. Seven of us sent the shrimp back if that tell you anything. Stood in line for well over an hour to be served inedible mushy shrimp, burnt fries, and burnt hush puppies. Instead of refunding my money they just brought out more shrimp in a different size but we're just as bad so when I brought those back the old man who owns the place was very rude about it, told me "there's nothing wrong with it, the shrimp are just molting, it's part of what they do" and tossed a $10 bill at me. Also, for around $25-35 a person there really should be proper wait service, not people standing in line for an hour to place their own orders and then stand in another long line to get your own drinks and refills like a fast food restaurant. I have no problem serving myself, I just feel if I'm going to pay upscale dining prices, there should be at least somewhat of an upscale...
