Allow me to preface this review by stating I love BBQ and I was brought in by the beautiful smells of this restaurant, however, I was monumentally disappointed in my entire experience. My drinks were strong enough, so that was no issue and the food was....well let's just say that smell was a bit misleading...but I could have handled it BUT the problem is intensely the staff. Let me explain.
I sat down ordered one drink and an entree. I was brought the drink...and check immediately. Having worked in a restaurant in the past, at first I took no offense, as this is policy for many restaurants, but after observing the procedure... I noticed none of the other tables had checks prematurely....so here we go.... they are definitely profiling me.
Here's the obvious. I am a young looking African American woman with long colored locs... but the hidden truth is I'm a high class executive, respected business coach on TV, and can afford everything on that menu time and time again...
And to add insult to injury... the manager literally asked every table if they were ok but me and one other. I sat in that tiny restaurant for my 1.5 hour wait and watched her bend over backwards for ALL the white guests while intentionally ignoring me and another black woman guest (whom was dressed beautifully so we'll debunk my locs and leggings travel outfit theory). Never checked on us. Never even acknowledged our existence.
Disgusting behavior. Just ugh.
...moral of the story for everyone.... white...black.... whatever.... don't eat here. The food is NOT good enough to constitute the arrogance in the air. Do not support a business that operates as if they literally had a meeting on the heiracy of how to treat guests based on appearance.
And for record...even if you will support the product (food) when the staff is awful... remember the product legitimately was not worth the money as well.
Shame on them. Not sure if this is a small business or corporate entity, but if they are corporate run (which I WILL find out) I recommend this entire staff is replaced (except the bartender....she can stay lol). There's no way repeat customers go...
Read moreOk, where do I start? Let’s start with the most important part of what I experienced. I stopped by The Mustard Seed and sat at the bar to place an order. There was a couple next to me, and we struck up a brief conversation. A few minutes later, they got up (she mentioned their flight was boarding) and they left.
Not even two minutes after, another patron noticed the man had left his wallet behind. It was sitting right there on the bar, full of credit and debit cards. I immediately told the bartender, named Corey. He glanced at it, said “He’ll come back,” and just walked away, leaving it out in the open.
So I took the wallet and tucked it slightly behind the bar for safekeeping. I then asked the bartender if he could give me a name off one of the cards so I could try to run after them or alert the gate. Without even looking at me or the wallet, he casually says “I don’t know his name,” and walked off again. I was disgusted. Not only was the guy’s info sitting there but he had just paid the bill, he could have simply looked at the receipt.
Sir, this is an airport. People are traveling to domestic and foreign destinations, and this is a WALLET . I was trying to help, and he couldn’t be bothered to do the bare minimum. At that point, I asked him to package my food to go, took back my tip, and when I left, the wallet was still sitting out. He never once attempted to secure it.
Now, as for the food—unfortunately, it completely missed the mark. The Mac and cheese and coleslaw-they didn’t have it. The Texas toast was actually sourdough bread. The potato salad was a disaster - 0/10. The baked beans tasted like they were straight out of a can with no seasoning or effort—1/10. And the brisket? It was tough, dry, and clearly a poor cut of meat. Hands down one of the worst I’ve had—also 1/10. Don’t waste your money, the food was bad and the...
Read moreAs a frequent traveler and someone who appreciates the variety that airport dining can offer, I usually enjoy the food scene at ATL—especially when flying Delta and facing the all-too-common layover. The airport generally provides a solid selection of eateries, and I’ve had many good experiences in the past.
Unfortunately, my recent visit to Mustard Seed was not one of them.
At first glance, the restaurant looked inviting, and I opted to sit at the bar, expecting quicker service. That expectation quickly faded. Despite the bar staff constantly passing by, service was notably slow—even with an empty glass in plain view.
But the real letdown was the food.
I ordered the mac and cheese with chicken brisket, a dish I assumed would be rich, savory, and satisfying. What arrived instead looked like something thrown up by a customer after a long night at the bar—soupy, unappetizing, and visually off-putting. The “mac and cheese” was drowning in what I can only describe as a bland broth, and the so-called chicken brisket was flavorless to the point where I questioned if it was chicken at all.
After a few bites, I pushed the bowl away. I’ve enjoyed BBQ and comfort food across the country, and I’ve never encountered a dish like this. It was, frankly, one of the most disappointing meals I’ve had in an airport—or anywhere.
Don’t just take my word for it—look at the picture. It...
