Ok, I previously gave this restaurant a 3 - star review, and I never usually update my reviews. In this case it was a must!!!! We visited on a Wednesday evening to celebrate my son's 5th grade graduation. The Hibachi area was an hour wait so we opted for the dinning room, which sat immediately. We thought we would be in and out. We were very wrong!!! We had a party of 10 altogether consisting of 4 children, the you great being a very hungry 3 year old. More tables were sat and we were not even greeted for about 15 min. Then when we put in our drink orders it took another 10-15 minutes for them to arrive, several incorrectly I might add. The next adventure began when someone brought us out 3 bowls of soup (party of 10) and when I told him we had an order yet, he said it's okay. After that fiasco it took about 10 more minutes for someone to come and try and take our orders, when I ask for a sushi menu, she disappeared at about 15 minutes later my husband got up to get sushi menus for us. Still no one came to take out order, until we asked another server. After the women finally came to take our orders she walked away before taking one persons order at our table..... I wish I was kidding, but it just kept getting worse. Table after table around us was getting their salads, soups and their food was coming out. As my daughter watched this, and as her son began to cry because he was so tired she decided to leave. She canceled her order and took her hungry kiddos home. Mind you, we had already placed our orders. We kept seeing other people get their food and ours was still not coming out, not even our salad and soups. It took about 30 minutes to get the sushi we had ordered, and the food still wasn't there. My husband and I finally got upset enough to stand up and we're about to walk out when they said it, "It's coming now". When the bento boxes came out, the we're missing the sushi. The rice was incredibly bland and the service kept getting qorse. And my sweet little 3-year-old grandsons food never got put in. When they came back to check, we let them know that we didn't have the nuggets, and they made them quickly. The problem was is they brought them burning hot and place them in front of a hungey 3-year old. You geussed it, he reached fo them and burned his mouth. The entire experience was over 2 hours long and we were exhausted by the end of it. Then I get my bill. They could have at least comped the meal for such bad service! This will be my last visit to Tokyo!!
BELOW 👇 👇 👇 is my previous 3 - Star review.
I would agree that most people would give this place a five-star review. So am I giving it three? My main reason for a three-star review is that every time I eat here I get a stomach upset (no details needed) I think it's because they're still using MSG in their food. I can't be sure, so don't take my word for it but it seems that way.
And why a three for atmosphere? While the dine-in area is nice lighting and wall decorated. The hibachi area feels overcrowded and the lights are way too bright for a relaxed dining experience. Each time I've eaten here in the new space I feel like I'm being hurted and and hurted out like cattle because they don't even give you time to settle in before they begin to take your order or move on to the next item on the menu once you're served.
If you're looking for a mediocre hibachi experience that is not on the high end of expensive then this is probably for you.
However, if you're looking for a fine dining experience this is a long shot for sure.
Now, I've been going to this restaurant for years, way before they moved into the new space and never had the stomach issues, or feelings of being hurted like I do in their new location. I'm not sure what's going on, but I really hope that they will take this into consideration and whatever they're using in their food that is upsetting my stomach, I pray that that is dealt with because I actually enjoy going here for lunch.
Oh, but if you're looking for sushi... They have amazing sushi! Everything else...
Read moreSo I’m not one to complain and I have work in the food industry for about 6 years. I get Tokyo is supposed to be sort of like a fancy dining restaurant experience However, I’m mad 😡 about the gratuity that was added with out me knowing. Like 18% like are you for real. Most fine dining I been to in Covington and Conyers don’t do gratuity because no body can afford it. And yet when the check came I was force to pay it because I don’t want to start any issues. I was originally knew what I was getting and i knew the check would be about $70 bucks but I usually depends on how good the service is i usually tip 5-10 dollars worth if it was that good but I had to tip 0.00 dollars because the gratuity is so high. Like are u kidding me and to be honest the service wasn’t even that good anyway.
Me and my mom and dad want some Chinese food. Every thing around us was closed. So we went to Tokyo. We haven’t been there a long while since it was closed due to the health inspection. Then I heard they add a sushi bar which is pretty cool too. As we went in there yes everything was different then it originally was. The host ask us for a sushi table or hibachi table. We said regular table/ we haven’t been in here for quite some time. Now when I said this. (This was the perfect time for a host to say )well now we offer you to pay gratuity and how much it would be. But nope they didn’t say. Now when we use to be here they didn’t add gratuity and now they do? If i have known about it I would walked out and said nope.
When we sat down we were greeted by 3 different servers like one took our drinks then another one took our order and said did anyone get your drink and we said yes confused. (So lack of communication.) A different server filling up drinks and bring us food. So we didn’t have a single server. That’s why I also didn’t tip because I’m not going to tip everyone when that the manager job is to pay everyone. That’s ridiculous. I don’t need to be tipping 3 people to take care of my order and drinks and food. It doesn’t take 3 or 4 people to do there jobs. Yes they were nice and welcoming but however it did take a long time to get a refill. The food is so dry and they brought us like little cups that hold ice but less soda. Plus being hot outside in the summer. Of course people are going to get thirsty. So it did take a while. But honestly i would rather tip one person than a bunch of other servers.
Finally, as i was looking at reviews i read the owner commented and i quoted ( we add gratuity because people arn’t tipping the servers) well if that was the case then you need to higher there pay raise or get better customer service or do better. It’s not how the server acts it’s also if how there are managing there time. And are doing everything they can to please you or make your service better. Instead they sat us and went on there day sending different people to take care of us? I’m sorry I didn’t know I was at the alcohol bar which that’s more cheaper then Tokyo.
So far it says I spend 75$ of 3 Hibachi Entries which mom had chicken, dad had chicken and steak and I had chicken and shrimp with a water, unsweetened tea and a coke plus 2.99 sushi i want to try because never tried it.
But 13 Dollars for the gratuity???? Which came to 91 Dollars you have lost your mind. I was expecting the 75 dollars to pay but 91 dollars. For 3 people. Yall arn’t that fancy. If i spend that much I’ll take my self to down...
Read moreI never write reviews but my recent dining experience was so bad I have no other choice. My boyfriend and I have been coming here to eat for a long time, him longer than I, since way before they moved to this new location. Over the past few years the food has been decent, not fine dining but decent for the price. This most recent time we went to eat (6/10/24) we were quickly seated and the only ones in the dinning area imagine our surprise when we see an almost 40% increase in price for what we usually order. That’s the first issue, next issue was after we placed our orders and the soup and salad came out, we waited 10 minutes for silverware. While waiting for our silverware and eating the soup imagine my surprise when I found a dead fly in the bottom of my soup bowl. I regret not saying anything then but my boyfriend was trying to convince me at first it was a piece of mushroom, then once he realized it was a fly tried to reason maybe it just landed in the soup when I wasn’t looking. After we left and read other recent reviews it was DEFINITELY a fly that was brought out in the soup from the kitchen. Next we waited at least 20 minutes for our food to be brought out, longer than we’ve ever waited before and we were the only people in the restaurant!!! The food didn’t even come out THAT hot. The server never came back to check on us, after we finished eating we waited 15-20 minutes for our check even though I could see the server just walking around and talking to other employees. After we paid when we were leaving I overheard another customer talking to an employee that they ordered ranch on their salad not ginger dressing and the employee quickly snapped back all they had was ginger, he’ll go get them a fork and walked away. I don’t understand how they were supposedly out when they asked us what dressing we wanted and gave a choice of ranch or ginger and he was the very next person to be sat, it seemed the employee just didn’t want to get the correct salad. The bathroom was kind of messy and there were no paper towels in the bathroom. Additionally the booth we were sat at was literally falling apart and taped together. The building isn’t old enough for the booths to be falling apart. We should have left after I found the fly in my soup, but tried to give the benefit of the doubt. I highly highly doubt we will EVER be returning or recommending to anyone else. Price increases as drastic as theirs can be justified with better service, high quality food and ingredients, a more enjoyable dining experience. Now it’s just low quality service, mediocre quality food (at best), at a high quality price. Do yourself a favor and go...
