Update: I have changed this review from a 1 to a more neutral 3. I was very pleased with the owner, Jimmy, taking the time and making effort to call me and extend a genuine apology. He took my concern very seriously and rectified the source of the problem. In the haste of frustration, I was probably a bit too quick and harsh with my poor review. Because we have always been very pleased in this restaurant (service and food) in times previous to this occasion and because of the owner’s sincerity, we will start with a neutral slate and give them another try in the future. And just for the record, he has ensured that orders will be accepted up to the closing minute, regardless of the wait time for food to be cooked.
Normally, I am not one to complain, but tonight is the exception and deserves to be called to attention. My daughter and I were planning to meet with 2 other family members for dinner. We were planning to dine in it upon entering the restaurant, we noted that their Sunday hours closed at 8 pm (25 minutes after our arrival). While standing in front of the cashier, I called my family members to inform them not to meet us that I would just make our order to go. The blonde lady at the counter informed us that there was a 30 minute wait. I told her that was fine, that we we would be making a to go order. She responded with “ well, you say that”. I told her that I didn’t mind waiting to which she responded, “well actually, even if you make your to go order now, you won’t get your food because we close in 20 minutes”! I thought she was joking. So if you refuse to serve someone 20 minutes prior to closing, why is your door still unlocked? Not only was this very unprofessional, but her tone and attitude were extremely rude. If this had truly been the issue she could have at least said, I’m sorry and wish us a future opportunity. I can’t complain about the food that we have had there in the past, as we were, in fact, returning customers. BUT…I will say that l, for me, customer service is just as important as quality when it concerns gaining my loyalty. Tonight’s lack of professional and customer friendly service has left a very sour taste and therefore, this establishment has lost my business and reference to other friends and family. I understand that everyone has bad days, but as I have just read several similar reviews I am now convinced that this is tolerated behavior and quite possibly the standard at...
Read moreWillie Jewell’s is a hidden jewel in the greater Augusta area! Best BBQ joint I have had in the State of Georgia to date.
This location offers military discount.
From the parking lot to the inside of the restaurant the experience was welcoming and a great BBQ type vibe.
Customer service was World Class and the team offered samples of their products to help me make the right decision for my family’s meal.
The owner was extremely nice and welcoming! He even stated he would create a challenge for someone such as Joel Hansen to give it a go!
Enough of that and let’s talk BBQ! I sampled a rib and let me tell you, mmm mmm good, fall off the bone great fat and meat ratio. All fat on all meat was cooked to where it rendered and melted in your mouth while enjoying each bite.
The brisket had a great flavor, smoke ring, and pulled apart with a light snap as it should. Get this on a roll with some Hickory Red and you got something special.
The pulled pork was fantastic. Weather you want it in a roll with some coleslaw, on your plate smothered with BBQ sauce, or just dig your fingers in and eat as is; you can’t go wrong.
The sides were fantastic as well. Creamy Mac and Cheese, savory green beans cooked with some pulled pork, and creamy lightly sweet and salty Cole slaw.
Lastly paired with some buttered Texas toast and grape lemonade, let’s go!
Come on down and give this place a try!
This place rates in on of the top 3 BBQ joints I have eaten at, the other 2 being in Texas.
Great job and we look forward to going back and getting a...
Read moreWe were on a mission to find some good BBQ and decided to stop at Willie Jewels. I have never been here.
The inside was nice and clean. The outside had some tables and they have a take out window. You can eat inside or out.
I got the 2 meat combo - pulled pork and brisket w/ Mac n cheese and cornbread. The brisket fell apart and was good (a little fatty). The pulled pork was dry. The Mac and cheese was bland. The cornbread was good. The portions were small for a 2 meat plate.
They have 3 different types of sauces. I wasn’t a fan of any of them. The sweet and sassy was decent.
My child got wings and green beans and she said it was ok. I tried the wings and unfortunately they forgot to season them before they grilled them. The wings were a nice size with meat on them. The green beans were good.
My mom got the 1/2 chicken with fried okra and cornbread. The chicken had a good smoked taste. The okra was delicious. They cut the chicken up into the sections they want to give. It should be 1/2 a chicken not cut up.
I would probably give it a 4/10. The food was a little pricey (my meal was $15) for what you get (2 meat 1 side, cornbread). No drinks come with the “combos.”
Service was phenomenal! The guy at the window was nice and helpful.
My taste buds are picky and for me this place didn’t hit the spot but I recommend to try it once. I didn’t think the quality and quantity of the food justified the prices they...
