I'm from Virginia but have had Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine in Texas and Mexico, and New Mexican in Mesa and from a New Mexican native who moved to our region in Virginia. I've also had Taco Bell (although I did get sick one time from a Taco Bell in VA).
Let me level with you: the salsas at this Filiberto's were the worst I've ever had. Bland, no flavor, no heat. Given that we're talking AZ, that made no sense to me -- especially because Virginians (outside of Northern Virginia) have basically NO concept of spice heat (anything with a decent Scoville rating). Honestly, trying the salsas at Filiberto's, I was left with the impression that even Virginians could do better. That is sad. I don't know if they consistently keep these salsas at appropriate temperatures to prevent spoilage, either, or adequately monitor their salsa bar. Just FYI.
They seem to use a lot of salt and / or preservatives. At least, I tasted a lot of saltiness in our meal last night.
The stuff just doesn't seem all that fresh or healthy to me.
Perhaps I am wrong about this, but I think that I have developed food poisoning from eating here. I know that my gut has felt kinda icky both times I've eaten the food from here.
The first time I got sick -- presumably from the food here -- I needed BOTH ondansetron (Zofran) AND promethazine (Phenergan) to get the nausea under control. Once I took the meds, consuming fresh, raw garlic cloves really helped to knock down whatever the problem was. (I also recommend probiotic pills afterward.) The garlic did its job of serving as a good gut antiseptic to address whatever was causing the problem. I was back to my old self after a day, although I was feeling much better shortly after I ate several garlic cloves. So if you get sick from Filiberto's, you can try raw garlic cloves, especially at onset, while you can still eat something. They may help.
Now, the hubs did order take-out from Filiberto's again, and I did try again. I felt icky in my gut right after eating the food. And, well, I'm up with moderate indigestion, writing this review. Eating garlic again. I don't feel as bad this time so far, but I don't want to take any chances. I need to ban food from at least this Filiberto's from our home here in AZ. Tired of the "Montezuma's Revenge" or worse.
I would like to point out: I looked up Maricopa County Environmental Health Food Inspections for this location. Apparently, I try to maintain a cleaner kitchen at home. That should tell you something right there.
So, suffice it to say that I intend to talk to the hubs and ask him not to get food from this Filiberto's for me anymore. I'm glad he can tolerate it. I guess I'm more sensitive, but that's ok, because I can cook for myself.
Sorry about the bad review. I normally really like Mexican, Tex-Mex and New Mexican-type cuisines. The food I have had from this Filiberto's just hasn't seemed nearly as...
Read moreI have never had such poor customer service experience, or lack of communication, I ordered food today and they got my order wrong. When I called to tell them, (since it's for the office) they said come on down and we'll get it replaced. I asked them should I bring my original food back and they said no go ahead and leave it .when I came back the manager wouldn't even listen to me and told me I had to pay more because I didn't pay for "extra" items because her cashier didn't write it on the receipt (she was new and of coarse wasn't her fault but management should have fixed the problem)but instead she told me that i should have paid attention to the receipt. Than she asked for my food back and I said I don't have it because they told me on the phone I didn't have to bring it and so she says she has to charge me because how can she prove I'm telling the truth. When I told her they told me I can keep it she said no I had to go back to my office and bring the food back, and I had to pay full price for a burrito that was $6.00 and they just lost my business when I go there all the time for the company I work for. Don't go there people the manager there is extremely...
