Moreno's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Gilbert

I'm a little biased because I've loved Gecko Grill for years, and as I understand, they're owned by the same family. My life was ruined, RUINED I tell you, when they closed the Gecko on Gilbert road and Guadalupe. They did open it up later on, up at baseline and greenfield but I live on the SE border of Gilbert, it was so far away that I rarely got to go. So I tried the Moreno's in Queen Creek, (which... Queen creek is irritating to me in general), and having some of the same food kind of gave me my fix, but that place was always slammed and not quite the same, and it just didn't quite fill the void in my life. Or maybe my heartbreak was still too fresh. IT WAS TOO SOON. But then, oh happy day, they built this Moreno's and opened it and made me the happiest of women. I didn't want to go during opening week. You CANNOT judge any establishment by opening week, and I didn't want to start the relationship out on rocky footing. We waited until tonight, and oh how glorious! How poignant and sweet! The food' to die for! The chips so warm and light and crisp! The cheese crisp so gooey on top and crunchy on bottom! The salsa and bean dip! Oh glory! I had the Pollo Fundido- piping hot, golden crisp on the outside, steamy soft and tender on the inside with hot steamy white chicken breast and some delectable sauce. Other dishes had at our table were the fried shrimp platter... mini beef chimis... the special chimi with spinach queso sauce... the spinach enchiladas, and a steak-topped taco salad... it was all so good. The manager stopped by to chat and I got a little twitterpated and verklempt. I told her how deeply I'd been hurt by the Gilbert/Guad Gecko closure... and she sent out a complimentary queso and chips... the angel. I love this place. My new...

After getting vaccine from nearby, we decided to try this location. We love going to the Gilbert & Germann one. We already know the menu. Our waiter comes back to take our order, & he’s standing at the end of the booth. I start to tell him what I want & I see the gal with the tray that has our chips, salsa & bean dip coming at the same time. I don’t know if she tripped or was just walking too fast & just lost control of the tray. But mid sentence every comes flying at me. I was wearing it all!!! I even had bean dip on the inside of my reading glasses! The waiter apologized & got me rags to try to clean up but needless to say it was a disaster. The gal didn’t say a word!!! What the heck?!?!? The delicious food was so ruined by this experience. Not only that but they gave me a free fried ice cream to compensate. Oh really??? I couldn’t even eat my whole dinner after that. I was freezing sitting there in wet clothes. They could have offered to clean my clothes or buy me a new outfit or at least they could’ve comp’d my dinner if not our whole tab!!! I mean we didn’t order a bunch of drinks or run up an outrageous bill. But geez. Maybe they should train their servers to wait until the end of the booth is open instead of trying to hurry. We usually frequent the one In Queen Creek. Never really had any issues there This one was quite the opposite. We had to seat ourselves, which is OK and the table we ended up choosing was dirty, Yet three other employees were just standing around talking, when they should’ve been cleaning up the dining room. It took forever for us to get a server and when he brought our drinks, I ordered an iced tea. My wife ordered a water. He brought us a Pepsi and a water. After realizing his mistake, he said he would go get us another one, but then he proceeded to stop at two other tables before he brought my wife’s water to her. Just very lackluster service here, the food wasn’t as good either… I got the seafood chimichanga. My wife got the Pollo fundito , which was made a little bit differently than the one in Queen Creek. My chimichanga was very skimpy on cheese on top of it and inside and was mainly rice. We definitely will not be back to this restaurant as it was kind of lackluster food and poor service along with a dirty dining room * Also a note to the owners *why do you have one server covering the entire dining room?
