TLDR: Chengs treated me rudely, wouldnāt prepare my food as I asked, packed my order with no care whatsoever, wasted my time & moneyā and then couldnāt even apologize or offer to make right. Iāll never be back, Iāll never recommend this place and Iām letting everyone know youāre a bad business. I feel bad for, what I can only assume is mom, in the back, cooking away, with no idea the guy at the front is representing their restaurant so terribly, smh. This town is waaaay too small to be that rude. I try to keep my dollars local but Iāll find a new Chinese place!
Our second time here as new residents of Mt Gilead and we were incredibly disappointed. First time was great, but this time things went downhill quickly! ā¹ļø let me preface by noting the paper menu has all the old prices scribbled out and new prices hand written inā¦and the prices arenāt updated online. Itās tacky at best, deceptive at worst, but ok Iāll roll with itā¦. We called in our order for carry outā¦Whoever the younger guy is who answers the phone couldnāt be more bothered to help people. He was short, curt, and utterly unpleasant. Im a patient polite person and I always try and give the benefit of doubt, but I couldnāt understand why he was being so rude to me. I asked about having a dish prepared spicy and he told me they donāt do that⦠Yes, you do, you made it for me last time⦠but ok, Iāll just make it spicy myselfā¦.Asked about another dish also wanted it spicy- āit already comes spicyā¦ā so can I get it more spicy??? And he argued with me about how I want my food made. So many red flags already. š©š©š©It was ready in 10 mins for pick up. Grabbed my bag through the plastic window and drove home. When I opened the bag at home the entire order of general tsos had spilled all over the bottom of the bag. Egg rolls soggy. The cardboard was lying one direction & the food in the opposite direction, the bottom wasnt supported at all. (This also happened the first time we went there, but I naively looked over it & chalked it up to MY error.) The sweet & sour chicken had no sauce anywhere. So we called back after our 10 minute drive there & 10 minutes backā¦. And the same guy answers the phone, we explained the order hadnāt been packed correctly & was actually missing the MAIN INGREDIENT for sweet and sour chicken. He said it should be there in a small separate container. āThatās why Iām calling to tell you itās not here! Is there anything you can do to make this right? Both my meals are ruined.ā He said āyou should be more careful with your food. It not my fault.ā I pushed back insisting the order wasnāt packed right, as evidenced by the missing sauce⦠tge cardboardā¦and soggy eggrolls on the bottom of the bagā¦and begrudgingly he said, āso you want me to have sweet & sour sauce waiting for you?ā āNo my guy, just an apology...ā and he still refused to even acknowledge the mistake. I know he is the one who packed the order. I said ājust forget it.ā I feel super unhappy about this whole experience. I try to keep my dollars local but Iāll find a new...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe "fried" rice is just bland yellow rice. I ordered the General Tso's chicken and it tasted generic. The egg rolls and crab rangoons were good but I didn't come for appetizers. I feel sorry for the people who go here because it's the only Chinese place in the area. It's extremely hard to comprehend how ANYONE could give this place anything above 2 stars. I guess it's because they don't know what good Chinese food tastes like and going to this dump, they never will. I don't blame the customers though because again, it's the only Chinese restaurant in the area and people aren't willing to drive from the middle of nowhere to get quality so they just settle for whatever is near. I only went in out of curiosity as I pass the place very often and I was VERY, VERY disappointed. I will NEVER spend another penny here.
This is the first time I post a review about anything and maybe I never will again but who knows. My point is, this place is a disaster and the only reason they're even in existence today is because the locals just accept their food and poor service and continue bringing them business. I felt it was necessary to let people know of my unfortunate experience. Hopefully a competitor opens nearby and puts this sham of a restaurant out of business so they can learn how to make quality food. I wouldn't want them to go out of business but what else would it take for them to shape up? According to past comments, they've been in business for years so there's no excuse. THIS IS NOT WHAT CHINESE FOOD SHOULD TASTE LIKE. Good luck...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I first moved to the area, I tried this restaurant because it is the ONLY Asian food/ Chinese Restaurant in the entire area .... possibly the entire county that I'm aware of. It was awful! I tried it several more times because I thought maybe it was a fluke or they were about to change their oil in their fryers, but no. The beef in the Beef Lo Mein is so chewy and poor quality that I wonder if it is actually beef and their egg rolls are so sopping wet with grease that I could wring it out and fry another egg roll in it! I'm pretty sure they fry a bunch of them ahead of time, stick them in the fridge and then dunk them in the fryer again to warm them for each order ... GROSS!!!! I'm shocked that this place is still open. I will NEVER go back unless I'm sure quality and procedures...
