If this had been our first time at Tempo we'd not return. We've been to Tempo three or four times previously over the last year. Service and food were much much better than our experience this time. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the stiflingly loud music. All four of us are rockers, we listen to loud music and like it loud. This was beyond loud! Placing our food and drink orders was difficult, bordering on impossible. Service when we were seated was timely, we got water and non alcoholic drinks in good time. After that, service slowed down to a crawl. We ordered two appetizers, fried Brussel sprouts and stuffed mushrooms requesting that the maple syrup be left off the Brussel Sprouts but making no change to the stuffed mushrooms. The appetizers took 20 plus minutes to arrive. The other three of us ordered dinner salads and I ordered Cioppino. One of the salads was served at the same time as the appetizers the other two took another 20 minutes to arrive. It took another 10 minuets for my dish to be served. I looked at it and it didn't look anything like an Cioppino I'd ever seen and certainly not anything like the Cioppino I had previously been served at Tempo. I asked the server to confirm that the dish I was served was Cioppino and she did. I later found out it was Octopus confit. The server did not knw the menu. By the tme I was served my Cioppino another 20 minutes had gone by. My dinner companions had finished their meals and my Cioppino was not as described on the menu as it was missing several key ingredients mentioned. To be fair when I spoke to the server about the shortcomings of our experience my dinner was comped but the experience was not up to expectations set by previous visits to Tempo. We will go back hoping for a...
Read moreWe organized a cocktail attire 50th Birthday party for an amazing mom, aunt, sister, daughter. We contemplated Gilroy winery vs Tempo. We chose Tempo since the venue has a bar and live music. After our party we would stay for the dance and music.
40 people cost $2400 including tip. Drinks were not included and everyone bought their drinks. Drinks were delicious. However over priced for Gilroy market. The waitress got our drinks wrong many times; however, she made good and remade the drinks. Dan, the owner also made good on the event and offered 110% great service. Service was expected to be good during dinner due to cost....Dan met the expectations we had.
Food was delicious beginning with the appetizers to the main courses of beef, pasta with shrimp, and the juicy chicken. Everything was special and cooked to perfection. Usually food cooked for many people tastes dry. Not in this case.
The after party with live music was fantastic and became so-so because bars attract shady people who when drunk are inappropriate - harrassement of girls, cat calls. The bar tenders and woman manager do nothing about cat calls and harrassement. The owner said "you should expect this at a bar." I disagree. Ended up ruining the night.
Pearl - bar tenders should pay attention to customers and quickly jump in to de-escalate. However, perhaps, having security is costly for Tempo.
I recommend Tempo for the good food, good service, music venue. Would have been 5 star - however the escalation ruined a perfectly good night.
Dan, the owner called and apologized next morning. He had a meaninful conversation.
Tempo should be one of Gilroy's finest. I believe Dan and his team will work to make the...
Read moreDinner was excellent, except the salmon came blackened. The menu said it had a chimichurri sauce, it did not say it was blackened. But, it was blackened with no sign of a sauce. Chimichurri sauce may have been used as a marinade? Not sure. The salmon was juicy inside, but I didn't care for the blackened outside. David had the braised pork shank on polenta, it was delicious, including the bone marrow. We had the Baroki vegetable with curry season and jalapeños ranch sauce, very good, and the ceviche, average, for appetizers. Prices were right for this type of cuisine. I liked the hip atmosphere and background music. There were several TVs with the football game playing. When we got there at 5:15 it was not busy. By 6 it was pretty full. There is a lot of seating. Service was great. The menu is limited (I don't say this as a negative thing). Only about 8 or 9 entrées, but several salads, and appetizers. I asked about chef specials, turned out there was a separate menu we were not given; I found the ceviche on that menu. There was a cioppino on the dinner menu I will try next time. Desert menu was not impressive, we did not order desert. I'll give it 4.5 stars, but I will not order the salmon again. I'm sure we will go back, if for no other reason than to sit at the bar. For dinner, however; I think I will go to...
