My family has been going to Buathong Thai for years and it is one of our favorite Thai places to eat on this side of town. With that said, this is where we took my father for his 81st birthday and had a great time.
The unassuming shop is located in a strip mall off McLoughlin. Parking can at times be challenging as it is shared with many other businesses. However we didn't have any problem with 4 cars showing up on a Saturday evening.
The restaurant was pretty busy for a Saturday. Most orders were to go but there were quite a few diners in the establishment. Even so, the service was great. The place is family run with the owners diligently working the kitchen and their nephew working the front counter.
Food here is fresh and of hearty proportions. It's one of the best values in town as they don't skimp on the fresh vegetables, noodles or meat. For example their Avocado shrimp Salad rolls are two rolls cut in half totalling 4 servings. One half of a roll is almost the size of two rolls at other places! I ordered the lemongrass chicken salad and I easily had two chicken breasts on top of my salad. Definitely be hungry when ordering from here or be prepared for leftovers.
Overall, during these difficult times of rising inflation and deflation on proportion sizes it is nice to see some places remain the same. So if you are craving some great fresh Thai of generous proportions stop on...
Read moreI go back here almost every week and get take out for my family. The owner is amazing, as is the rest of the staff. Far and away some of the best Thai you can get. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and we've tried most all of it by now. Don't be afraid to ask for things how you like them as well and they'll make it happen every time. Looking forward to going back at the end of the week for my 50th or so visit there
Update Oct 2022: We still visit here as often as we can. We're no longer in the area so getting here does take quite a bit longer, but we still make the drive. In the nearly 10 years we've been visiting here, it is still some of the best food that can be had outside of the metro, and still by and far the best Thai we've had in the area. Whenever we do go by, Paul always comes out, remembers us by name, remembers our girls names even though he hasn't seen them in years, and always asks how everyone is doing. Him and Nancy really make the place feel overly welcoming, and now their son behind the counter does the same, remembering us every time. It's a wonderful place and worth a visit if you can make it by. As a side note, the portions are giant. The to go container is always filled until the top is bulging and is easily enough to feed 3 people. On our last visit we ordered 2 items, it was enough for 7 meals total, 3 for my wife...
Read morePaul and Nancy are some of the kindest people you will meet. That said, their food has no equal in all Oregon. NO EQUAL. They are the standard for Thai food, for me anyways.
The flavors, the ingredients, the freshness, the creativity...without equal. I've tasted items here I never knew existed. The spicy sauces paul makes are incredible! Savory, sweet, hot, lemony, salty, and everything else a salsa/hot sauce should be. I've tasted no less than 6 of his homemade sauces, each better than the last. My favorites are chicken larb, chicken cakes, Pad see ew, and he makes these amazing curry puffs... I might have to just call and order right now. The sticky rice is magnificent and if you're thirsty, he has Thai iced tea and coffee. Both as addicting as their food.
It's a local business with local people putting out incredible food at fair prices. The portions are huge and more than enough to feed 2-3 people at a time. Maybe even more depending on your hunger.
I travel a good bit just to go to Buathong Thai because no one comes close. If I ever want to disappoint myself, I try other Thai places. If I ever wanna be let down, I go to any other Thai spot. If I want the Thai magic that is Buathong Thai, well, I Google map it and...
