HORRIBLE Italian Steak Sandwich. What used to be a wonderful Kansas City specialty has virtually disappeared and even Chicago doesn't know what the KC Italian Steak truly used to be. Dominic's on North Oak assured us they had a great Italian Steak. We get them home. On the way home, they smell wonderful. We open them. They look great. But... where is the cheese? I And why is the sauce on the side? I bite into it.. it is hard as a rock.. WAY overcooked, my dentures came out. I had to rip it back and forth the way a shark eats. And... where is the cheese? Finally found it... not by flavor... not by texture.. but by sight... toasted to a hard piece of shiny plastic against the top piece of bread. I discovered it when I was putting the "side sauce" on the bread where it belonged. The top piece of bread is supposed to be moistened by sauces an most sandwiches, not in the middle of the veggies and the meat. Why do so many restaurants put veggies and melt cheese on the BREAD now instead of against the meat? Anyway, there it is. A skinny piece of breaded chicken cooked to a hard piece of wood between two pieces of bread, one of which had plastic cheese toasted to...
Read moreA couple things first. I've read some reviews before writing my own. Reviewers: be sure you're reviewing the correct location. Several of the negative reviews speak of carryout vs. dine in. You clearly ate at the location in Parkville. Not the one on North Oak. The Oak location ONLY does drive thru. It's the one with the car wash.... so don't write unless you know what you're talking about. Also, brush up on your grammar and spelling? Just a suggestion. For the record - I'm writing about the N. Oak location. This place has the best calzone I've ever tasted. I've eaten here hundreds of times and never a sub-par experience. Spedini bowl with penne and alfredo is my favorite. Their sugo is just the right mix of savory and sweet. And I've always marvelled at the fact that this comes from a drive thru window on the side of a car wash. And the car wash is excellent too. Every time I go, it's same sweet lady at the window reminding me to be safe and thanking me for coming. Eat here. Order a calzone or spedini bowl. Then get your filthy car...
Read moreWell this is the second time I have visited in a year or so. Last year I ordered a sandwich which was so so... bit pricey but loved the hot fries. So I thought I been working hard and kind of hungry so I will give it a second shot. Ordered the Italian sandwich $ 8 something which gives you a 50 cent bag of chips, small cup of sauce and a sandwich. The bread was good, sauce was almost okay, the rest not so much not sure if it was chicken, veal, beef or a cut of cereal box breaded. I mean it was so thin light may of shown through it. Sigh ended up going down the street to McDonald and getting a ten piece nugget which had 10 times the meat as the sandwich.
Really disappointed this area of town seems to be void of good food and the customer service or curtsy. When your customer pays her or his hard earned money for a simple sandwich you really ought to include a single napkin and try to provide an edible item. Next time subway instead? IDK
I hope this saves someone else the...
