Locally owned, authentic, and affordable Mexican restaurant tucked away in the South facing strip mall on the West side of 69th and North Oak Trafficway (by the stoplight). Large selection of traditional Mexican dishes, snacks, tons of colorful frozen treats and some really interesting apps/ snacks that I can't wait to try. The interior is bright and colorful and immaculately clean with lots of space between tables. There's even a really cute giant butterfly drawn on the wall that you can take selfies in front of! The menu is easy to read and expansive. We ordered multiple dishes to sample for carryout. Full disclosure, I have zero tolerance for spicy foods - so be forewarned that if you feel the same, the green salsa and the empanadas were both too spicy for my taste, but others in the family thought they were perfect! The tacos were extremely crunchy without being greasy, the flautas were crispy, and the quesadilla was to die for. I have never figured out how to eat a tostada without dumping all the toppings onto the floor, but this tostada gives me a reason to keep trying. All of this came to a total of $46, which is more than affordable, and you can definitely feed quite a few people for less. So excited to have a new favorite place! We will...
Read moreI was going to order through Door Dash, but I decided to drive to the location and dine-in. I'm glad that I did. I love the look and feel of the restaurant, plus the staff were very nice. I ordered 2 crunchy tacos. My boyfriend ordered the La Monarca Burger(Angus beef patty layered with grilled onions, bacon, ham, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado and mayo). I'm not a big burger fan, but I took a bite of his burger and it was delicious ❤️🤤 My tacos were tasty and filling as well. I love supporting local small businesses, so I will definitely be returning soon.
Update: I went back the next day for a couple of treats. I got the churro cheesecake which was yummy. It was nice & light, plus it wasn't overly sweet. I also had a small cup of Elotes without chili powder. It was delightful as well. La Monarca is a great addition to the Northland.
Another update(Lol!) I keep going back to try new dishes. So far, I've been pleased with everything I've tried. Since my last update I've bought the La Monarca breakfast special, beef empanadas, the Texano burrito and a few smooties. The smoothies are pricey, but they are...
Read moreI went there today excited to try their food around 12:30 pm. I was the only one at the time in there. I saw two ladies cooking and talking in the back. I assumed they were busy since no one greeted me. Finally someone came up and I said just one. She said one what? For here a table. I asked her if she knew spanish. She nodded yes. I told her, "Do I sit. She looked confused. I said in Spanish, "Do I sit anywhere. At this point, I'm confused as to why I'm not being seated somewhere at a table. I sat myself down. While at the table, I was just irritated at the lack of customer service. I just got up and left. No one came up to ask why. I spoke to her in English and spanish in case it was a language issue. I have never been to a restaurant in KC where I have been treated so rudely. I certainly have never been to a Mexican restaurant and been treated rudely. I'm at a loss for words. I don't understand. I felt as if I was...
