Once you try authentic Korean bbq-hotpot, you immediately know when the quality is bad when you venture away to try a new place.
If I could give the food at this establishment zero stars, I absolutely would. From the moment I stepped inside, something felt off, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt—big mistake. After my meal, I barely made it outside before violently throwing up. My Fiance had to stay back and wait for the waitress to come back with the bill. The culprit? My guess is the so-called “raw” section, which is an absolute health hazard.
The raw meats—beef, chicken, and seafood—are displayed on ice under bright, unforgiving lights, yet somehow, they’re lukewarm to the touch. The beef was visibly oxidized, turning an unappetizing brown instead of the fresh red or pink it should be. That alone should have been my warning to leave, but unfortunately, I stayed. My Fiance made the comment about the smell first actually. The moment the meat hit the grill, an overwhelming stench filled the air, a mix of burning, possibly spoiled meat and the unpleasant, murky aroma of the hot pot. It was enough to make my stomach churn before I even took a bite.
The only remotely edible thing I had were the wontons, but let’s be real—I’m not about to drop $30 just for a few decent dumplings …..and a nice waitress. I mostly stuck to the raw sushi but even that made my stomach hurt. Raw food should not be left out in the open. The fact that this place was even recommended to me is baffling.
I called for a refund after my stomach settled and the charge was no longer pending. Rather than addressing my experience, they repeatedly insisted that no one else had ever complained about their food, as if that invalidated what happened to me. They insinuated that I didn’t know how to cook raw food properly and asked if I ate raw food directly from the bins (chicken, shrimp pork). I informed them I have been to many Korean barbecue restaurants, I’m aware of how to cook, and I have not gotten sick like this before. I also stated that I primarily ate raw sushi that was also out in the open under warm lights. Although the signs around the store said to cook beef for a good two minutes and seafood for a little bit more or less than that, I kept the food on the grill until I felt it was cooked all the way through, at least 8 min. I timed it. My fiancé also made comments to other patrons about the amount of time the signs posted around the restaurant said to cook the food. This also goes for the hot pot.
I remained respectful throughout the 20-minute conversation and even expressed that I was glad no one else had gotten sick. However, they refused to take responsibility, leaving me no choice but to request a chargeback through my bank.
I would have much preferred for the restaurant to handle this situation professionally, but their lack of accountability and dismissive attitude were disappointing. I hope they take food safety more seriously in the future.
I am not sure if this is a necessary note, but the restaurant page on Apple maps says pets are allowed which is a big red flag. I’m glad other people had good experiences but that does not mean everyone will have one. I hope this does not happen to...
Read moreI am a regular here. I’ve been coming here since they first opened. As a foodie who loves Asian food, I’ve been to many KBBQ & Hot Pot restaurants and I can tell you several reasons why I love this place… The restaurant, the utensils, and even the bathroom is clean. The meat for the BBQ is well seasoned, so it actually tastes good when you cook it the way you like it. They have discounts for students, military, etc. They also do lunch specials, which is so convenient if you’re in the mood for hot pot and want more bang for your buck. The sushi is made fresh at the back of the restaurant and they are delicious. The variety of sauces and seasoning is awesome. And, my personal favorite… They DO NOT charge you extra for eating alone! Not sure about NJ, but Philly KBBQ & Hot Pots will charge you $10+ for eating alone. This place is so welcoming to a lonely person like me and they don’t penalize me for it. I appreciate them for that. Their equipment is fully functional and well maintained. They will teach you how to do all the things if it’s your first time. They have boba tea drinks without the boba in the back, as well. The music I hear is always KPop. I’m always using Shazam in there.
Now, I do have ONE con about A Pot… They used to have a section with hot food like General Tso’s Chicken and other savory meat dishes. Now it’s been replaced with desserts. The desserts are ok, but I used to love eating the cooked food with their fried rice, but now that it’s gone, I personally have no use for the rice. They have French fries, fried chicken, fried shrimp… Great. But I hope they at least bring back the General Tso’s chicken. It was so good. They will charge you for food waste, but that is not a con. Just be mindful of your portions. They offer a lot of good food, so I suggest going there on an empty stomach.
Now I’ll share my favorite food to eat here. For the BBQ, I love the special spicy pork belly, spicy chicken, and the squid. For hot pot, I always do Mala broth because it’s spicy and tasty, veggies like spinach, Bok Choy, broccoli… and then some raw shrimp, blue claw crab, snow crab, imitation crab, ramen noodles, boiled eggs, and the thin sliced pork belly from the freezer. From the sushi bar, I would get the kani (crab) salad, seaweed salad, Shrimp tempura, and mainly the crab based sushi. I do not remember the names of all of them. The good thing about the sushi bar is they will label all the ingredients used to make the sushi.
Overall, this is THE top KBBQ & Hot Pot spot in Glassboro, and, in my opinion, in South Jersey. I know there will be more spots coming soon, but I would come here if you never been to a restaurant like this before or if you just want to relax and eat casually. They do have a 2hr limit, but they are also not shoving you out the door at the 2 hour mark, which is nice of them. Go see for yourself. I’m on my way over there...
Read moreI’d like to start by complimenting my server, Emily. Emily was so sweet and helped us navigate around; I didn’t even realize Emily was new until the end, she was that good.
The food selection was amazing, but I would like to see more variety in the sliced meats and soup bases. I didn’t like the beef bulgogi at all. I would’ve liked if the meats were cut thinner. Overall I did enjoy the food even though I do think there could be some improvements. There were a fair amount of fruits and desserts, and they even had ice cream (mint, vanilla, and chocolate) as well as vanilla frozen yogurt served in the same cups you see at kids birthday parties which I thought was great. I liked their strawberry mousse and my partner liked the cakes. Just as an FYI, the boba is included in the buffet so there’s no extra cost which is something to consider since their fountain drinks did cost extra (charging extra for drinks is typical for hot pot places).
The place itself was cute. We went at a slow time so I didn’t get to see it in full swing, but navigating the buffet was easy, especially since Emily helped show us everything. The prices were fair for everything provided as part of the buffet. There is a 10% discount for several different groups of people, such as students, but I don’t remember all of them so check before you go there or when you get there. I would recommend this place to beginners because of how simple everything was. We will be going again.
Once again I would like to compliment our server, Emily because I really do think she was great and I know she’s new so I really hope the...
