I don’t usually eat at this place since I am plant based / GF and there are no options. However, in the month of August I went to the Hartford Baking CO Glastonbury branch to make a purchase for a patient. I purchased 2 loaves of their country sourdough bread. As I was paying, I mentioned to the cashier how sad it made me that they do not carry ANY options that would match my dietary restrictions. The girl kindly said that “they do offer a Gluten Free version of their country sourdough bread” as she handed it to me. I was stunned and asked again if she was 100% certain that bread was GF? She said “yes, absolutely”. I bought it and told her I’d be back for more. As I couldn’t be any happier, I told a few people around about this new discovery. The day later, as I was walking by the WeHa branch I decided to stop by and get some more. To my surprise, I was told that “country sourdough GF bread doesn’t exist”. I kindly mentioned that it does in the Glastonbury branch and that I purchased one a day earlier. A man approached the counter and he introduced himself as the supervisor for the Hartford area and he assured me there’s not such thing as GF bread in their stores. He treated me as I was crazy , let alone the fact that I was 9 months pregnant then and went to ask for a product that was sold to me at the offer location. And you would expect people to treat you nicer. Anyways, I left but was very upset at how I was treated. I called the Glastonbury branch right away and an employee took my name and promised a call back from the manager. Tracy, the manager, called weeks later. She had this attitude. I swear I could not believe this person. I kindly explained how I’m celiac, 9 months pregnant , broke into hives due to her employees negligence, and not only she did NOT apologize , she wanted to be right and make me believe this situation simply “didn’t happen”. That there’s no way someone would sell me a GF bread at their store etc etc. again. Basically told me I made the story up and was crazy. Just calling to complain for the sake of it … like I didn’t have more important things to do at 39 weeks pregnant. I understand mistakes do happen, but the inability of fixing them, or even apologizing it’s beyond my comprehension. Tracy talked on top of me and was extremely rude and condescending. I ended up hanging up and mentioned writing a review about the situation. Anyways, won’t ever step a foot again in these stores and spreading the experience around town as well. Very very...
Read moreAs a HUGE fan of Hartford Baking Company's (HBC) 2 West Hartford locations I was thrilled when they finally opened a location east of the river (and let's face it closer to me!) earlier this year.
As with their other two locations - their Glastonbury outpost still has the same delicious fresh baked breads (personal favs are the Olive Ciabatta and Sourdough loaves), as well as breakfast and lunch items that I have grown to love.
Although you might just think HBC as a bread a pastry shop - that could not be further from the truth. They are very serious about their coffee and tea game. I admit (although not to the hubs) that over the summer I had a secret addiction to their iced lattes. Be sure to check their menu as they always have seasonally relevant drinks (giving cough another company's PSL a run for their money.
And if you have a hankering for something some eats - HBC has you covered as well. As with their drink menu - their cafe menu changes seasonally and has something for everyone. Right now I am a big fan of the Quinoa Bowl (and hope it becomes a permanent part of the menu) and the hubs loves the Southwest Turkey (sub Roast Beef for Turkey).
And in these uncertain times - HBC is very COVID 19 safe - the location is uber clean, all employees are masked up, and social distancing reminders are prevalent.
offer the option of delivery or pick-up and ordering on-line is a snap. I have ordered both in store and on line and during each of my experiences have been top notch (especially since the hubs likes to "modify" his order).
SO glad that HBC has opened a Glastonbury location it's become one of my...
Read moreI ended up there quite by mistake today. My car was having issues so I pulled off into their parking lot. Ready to cry I looked up & saw their sign. A good cup of tea can solve most anything, so I went in hoping for even a mediocre cup of tea. I was shocked to see they actually had Harney & Son tea, my absolute favorite tea! Ordering a cup, I looked around at the people sitting around the bakery. It was a pleasant place & people were all enjoying themselves, chatting & eating away. I glanced down at the baked goods on display & again was shocked at how wonderful everything looked! Everything from large, homemade pretzels, huge Nutella (!!) cookies, yummy looking raspberry bars, & my favorite…orange, cranberry scones!!! I bought them all!
Making small talk as my tea was being freshly made & tasty looking scones put in a box, I said something about my car having trouble & how lucky I was to pull in their parking lot & have my day turned around in minutes. The smiling counter person said to let her know if my car still didn’t work when I tried it again, she had jumper cables in her car, & would help with anything I needed. Again, I was shocked. Who does things like this anymore these days?! I thanked her again & again, went to go out the door, & another smiling counter person held it open for me, thanking me for stopping by.
While I don’t live close to Glastonbury, I can tell you I will be making a special trip up there just to go back here. When my car gets fixed that is! A BIG thank you for the best tea, the absolutely delicious scones, & turning my day completely around. I am now a...
