Went this morning with my husband and two young children. Atmosphere was great the employees seemed very nice. The place itself is loud but didn’t bother us as we aren’t normally bothered by loud venues/restaurants and it was busy. Expensive for breakfast.
My husband ordered the meal with the bacon, ham, egg and cheese sandwiched between the two pancakes with home fries. I ordered the Irish Beni, my younger of the two one scrambled egg and side of fruit. My older of the two three choc chip pancakes. The food was great, good flavor.
I just can’t get myself to give them any more than one star review because the service was absolutely HORRENDOUS. We were there for two hours and had our food for the last 40 mins. We had to flag someone down to request/ask for everything! We had to ask to get coffee refilled. Had to ask for sugar and creamers and then refill of both of those. My child’s pancakes came out plain. I notified the server that brought them and she asked “well do you want me to take them back to be remade or just throw choc chips on top?” Of course I asked for them r remake…….it took them 30 mins and 4 times of me checking in them to bring out the remade. By the time they brought them out we asked for our check and to-gos because we couldn’t bear to sit there any longer. My child just ate the pancakes in the car. I thought maybe at first it was just us. But the couple next two is were just as mad and irritated. We were double charged for coffee and didn’t even want to wait to say something/ask for them to remove the charge because we would most likely have to sit there even longer. Just horrible service.
Needless to say we will never go back based on...
Read moreIt was my first visit to the Spicy Green Bean, the waiter was ok at first, welcomed me, then ask me if this was my first time. I said yes. I ordered, I'm not sure what happened but it went down hill from then. The waiter basically ignored me the entire meal. After a 15 min wait for my food and watching the people next to me, who arrived after me receive their food, I flagged down the waiter and asked him what was taking so long, his comment was " oh you got to go, you want me to have them pack it to go?" No, I said just was wondering because I was seated before the people next to me first and the ordered the same thing. He said he was going to check on it. Then came back with my food. He set it down and said nothing. I said thank you. He stopped at my table so far once to check on me. The female waitress was excellent, she waited on people next to me. She refilled their water 7 times, went by to check on them several times. My waiter is still MIA Oh well. It's funny. I hear my waiter telling the people next to me the specials. Sounds delicious. I never had a choice. Well I can say I experienced the Spicy Green Bean....... can't say I'll return.... my waiter may need just a little more training... Haven't felt like a fish out of water in a long time. The food was ok, but my experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Ok, the waiter brings my bill. I give him my credit card. He commits on my picture when he returns. Strikes up a whole conversation. OMG He must wants a tip. LOL. Yes, people I gave him a tip. It was a good one. I am a...
Read moreWe've been huge fans of the Spicy Green Bean for years, but our first time eating at the new location was so severely disappointing that I felt like I had to leave a review.
While the old location was cozy and intimate with eclectic decor and art, the new one feels like someone redecorated a TGI Friday's with items from the TJ Maxx sale section. The quirky charm of the old place has been replaced with fake wood walls, fake plants, bright lights, and loud dance music.
We sat at a table made of a large upturned barrel, which meant that we either had to straddle it or sit sideways. Did anyone try sitting at these? They're comically uncomfortable.
The new menu was also a disappointment. It's huge, but leaves off long-time favorites like the asian noodle salad and namesake spicy green bean (which I guess makes sense since they've also re-branded themselves as "SGB," which itself feels about as generic and contrived as the décor).
The dishes are still interesting and creative, but everything we ate was under-seasoned and our yuca fries (which sound like an awesome idea!) only tasted like the oil they were fried in.
I've never written a restaurant review online, but the new Spicy Green Bean is so dramatically different (read: worse) than what it once was that I felt like I had to. It's strange that they're now branding themselves as an "edgy" eatery, when everything unique or edgy has been stripped away. This used to be our favorite restaurant in Glastonbury, but I doubt we'll...
