Will not return - experience was HARMFUL to my heart/overall health For a restaurant that takes pride in locally sourced food, I will not trust them as far as I can throw a bagel. I have been off caffeine for six and a half years on doctors orders. I ordered decaf coffee and in addition to the cup I was given a carafe. I asked the server if the carafe was for me as a second one was also set down on the table. She responded yes. After roughly six cups of coffee over about an hour, I felt like something was seriously wrong and asked again but was told both carafes were regular. I spent the next 10 hours having heart palpitations, increased resting heart rate of 125 bpm on average, nausea, anxiety, loss of sleep, blurred vision and the most uncomfortable flight of life. To top this off, 20% gratuity was added to the check so we didn't even have the option for our tip to reflect this large oversight. If the staff can't get regular vs decaf coffee right, I am not sure I would trust their gluten free or vegan options either.
For the rest of our table... We chose this place because we heard there was a great Blood Mary bar. The Bloody Mary bar is okay but for $14/drink, I would highly suggest going somewhere else for a more quality beverage. The service definitely left something to be desired as we were there almost 15 minutes prior to being greeted by a server. Most of my friend's meals were good but a little pricey ($16 for Eggs Benedict). My pancake was mixed up with someone else's so they had to remake mine and when I got the pancake it was so crispy it seemed like it was pan-fried. The buffet on the menu is just a hotel breakfast buffet, not a brunch buffet. Not even an omelet station is included. Overall, just a mediocre hotel restaurant that in typical hotel (not resort) fashion is overpriced for the...
Read moreThis is an update. We had dinner tonight at Glen Prairie, and it was apparent from the moment we were seated that there was a change in management, as was confirmed by our server. The food seemed lifeless, the asparagus tough and fibrous and cold, the fries limp and anemic and cold, the chicken tough and stringy, the avocado oxidized and brown, and over all there was a lack of attention to detail and passion for food that was once the signature of this establishment. Avoid.
Had dinner for the first time at Glen Prairie, after living in the neighborhood for five years. Outstanding from soup to nuts. The service was engaged and informed. knowing the ins and outs of the menu, assisting and suggesting but never pushing upgrades or rushing to turn over the table. This lies in stark contrast to the indifference and ignorance found among many servers at other local restaurants who seem like they would rather scramble back to the beverage station and check their Tik Tok account. The music was subdued and pleasant and complimented the table talk, versus most restaurants which play contemporary pop or hip hop at a deafening volume, distracting the guest from the taste and smells and textures of the food and interfering with conversation. (The American public cannot tolerate silence, neither when dining, shopping, or working out at the fitness center.) The food was a quantum leap level most restaurants pretending to be of the same caliber, the rib eye and the ribs were tender and tasty, the vegetables cooked al dente perfection, and the portion were 'Goldilocks', neither microscopic, looking like speck on a plate, not the size a manhole cover, and we left sated and satisfied, not stuffed...
Read moreThe short- The appetizers were good, the entrees' flavor and temperature was inconsistent, and the service was awful. The long- While the server said she would give us space, before we ordered, it was very difficult to flag her down because she didn't come by anymore. After ordering, I would have thought she would have checked on us more frequently. This would have been especially helpful after we received our meals and my daughter's food was cold. It never happened. Our party of 6 had a 20% gratuity added automatically at the end. The percentage is not an issue, but there was zero notification on the menu, or by the server, of such a fee (as I have seen in many other restaurants). The server debated with us about this being the standard and had the nerve later to say it is an Illinois standard. This is patently false in regards to party size and percentage (it varies by location). We asked to see a manager and the server came back saying they weren't around and must be on break. Upon her return from removing the applied fee, she loudly apologized that we were not happy with the service (the loudest she spoke all night) and said she informed the manager of all of our concerns and the manager would be available by the reception desk upon departure. Not only was the manager not there, but I am curious why the manager wouldn't come by and check on us personally. Was the server being truthful? With lackluster service, and food that was hit or miss, I would think twice about returning. I definitely cannot recommend Glen...
