We have spent THOUSANDS here...no joke, I have the bank statements to prove it. My wife and I, during the Taste of Glen Ellyn 2015 celebration, took our children to dinner here. My wife returned to retrieve the iPhone she left on the table (her fault) less than 10 minutes after leaving. When she returned, they looked around the restaurant and called her phone on her behalf with no results. They looked around the restaurant, asked employees, and put in what seemed to be a reasonable effort to find her phone...but there was no result.
My wife came back to where me and my family were enjoying the carnival, only to say she had lost her phone. I went to my iPhone and activated the "Find My iPhone" app, only to find that her iPhone less than 20 minutes from seeing it last...it was in one of the employee's cars behind the restaurant. Obviously we called the Glen Ellyn Police, who did a PHENOMENAL job of assisting us in getting my wife's phone back (and presenting themselves to my 7 and 4 year old children as the "heros" that found Mommy's phone...great job GEPD!!). So, in summary, within 15 minutes of us leaving the restaurant, my wife's phone made it to one of the employee's cars. We had the police take care of the perpetrator, then took a moment to discuss the situation with the establishment.
I thought I would get some assured resolution, but there was little effort on behalf of the restaurant to reassure us that any disciplinary action had been taken. They asked me for my cell phone # (STILL have not heard from them), but as someone who has been there since my teenage years (36 years old now), I am absolutely floored that they wouldn't take a moment to reassure a super-loyal customer that they valued my business and would take steps in the future to safeguard their restaurant in the future.
I manage car dealerships for a living, so I understand the importance of positive (and NEGATIVE) feedback, so I hold no reservation in saying after 20 years or so of allegiance, that has all come to an end. It breaks my heart, because I truly enjoy Santa Fe. If my wife and I ever get the chance to sneak out while we have child care, Santa Fe is our first stop...until now. The only advice I can give is to leave ALL of your valuables in your car, or just leave them at home altogether. I'd hate to think Glen Ellyn is starting to lose the battle against today's criminal minds...but my own personal experiences say otherwise. It's a bittersweet ending to a mixed experience with one of our favorite...
Read moreIf I was able to put zero stars I would. I wanted to take my friend to a Mexican restaurant for his birthday and this was not far for both of us. Unfortunately we had the worst service I've ever had with restaurants. The waitress had attitude, she would forget to bring our add on items, she didn't ask how the food was or if we needed anything else. We had to ask a different waitress for our hot sauce and napkins. She also didn't tell us additional charges for jalapeños and orher foods. We were upset so my friends and I decided to speak to the manager. This was the worst idea because the manager was arguing with us for almost an hour and telling us the waitress doesn't need to tell us prices of certain foods because it offends people. She also started telling us a story about how she had went out to eat before and they charged her more for a side of jalapeños and such. We were explaining to her that we are not happy for the service or the fact that we weren't told the prices of certain food items. The assistant manager stepped in and started arguing with us too telling us that we should've came to her if we weren't happy that she was watching us the whole time. How were we supposed to know she's an assistant manager. She also told us that we must go to restaurants all the time demanding refunds and free food. There was a lot of racism I felt. My friends and I are in our mid 20's Hispanic Arab and black. The manager said what you expect me to do? What do you want from this? I am appalled at the way we were treated here. On top of that my friend saw the assistant manager was recording us like we're some hooligans or ghetto people. That is unprofessional racist and very rude. I'm sure it's against...
Read moreThis one's kind of goes both ways and I've been there plenty of times. Food is great and is pretty authentic and not Scrappy like some Mexican places. Prices are fair but they're ridiculous on their drink prices and I would suggest drinking other places like right across the street where you can get a Modelo for half the price they're charging there. For $7 a beer, you ought to be able to get almost the whole picture. Speaking of pictures, they have a ungodly cost for a picture of margaritas at other Mexican restaurants. One of the reasons of going to a Mexican restaurant is supposed to be economical to cheap, not charging for alcohol like they are a high-end fancy nightclub or something. I don't need to drink at those prices and I would just go eat to go there because they don't reflect the prices of the food. Then on top of that they charged me more on the bill than what they told me the cost of the picture of margaritas was on top of it. Then they want to close early, and how about stop gouging people and staying open later and making money on volume. Then the Biggy and the last thing when I question it, the manager had a raunchy attitude about after spending a hundred bucks. I see I'm not the only one on the reviews that have mentioned the attitudes of the establishment and I think the people that run this place or not happy or professional running this business don't seem like they want to be there for some reason and should be happy when customers...
