El Mezquite Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Glendale Heights

Decided to support this local small business on a Friday evening. It is a small restaurant with some available outdoor seating. The food was amazing, from the chips and salsa to our entrees. Everything was well portioned and great authentic flavors. If you plan to dine in I would say no group larger than 6 which hopefully with time they will grow into a larger space. Service was excellent with average timing for food. If it is busy it may take longer but worth the wait. Atmosphere is pleasant. The only con was no fountain drinks so if you order a soda you have only cans/bottles qmeaning no refills but small con compared to the amazing food. I didn’t get pictures of all of my family’s dishes but we also tried the torta cubano 🤌🏼, tampiquena, and a quesadilla which were all great and well portioned photos were quesabrilla with consome and taco dinner. Unfortunately I had to make an update of this review. Not only did some of the ladies who worked there, specifically the younger women made me uncomfortable when ordering because they looked very annoyed, but about 3 months ago, I got food poisioning there and was sick for 9 days! Now to be fair, this may have something to do with the recent E.Coli/Listeria outbreaks, but I was so sick during that time. Not even 24hrs later, the symptoms kicked in and their tacos was the last thing I had ate that day because I had went there in the evening. I don't go there anymore because I'm scared to eat their food. Either my food was tampered with or it really was due to that E.Coli or...

Good food. HORRIBLE wait times.

I stopped coming for like 4-5 months because it took a hour for 5 regular steak (cilantro & onion) tacos. Tried again today. Called the order in and I specifically asked if the wait was long before i even ordered. Lady on the phone said they werent busy n it should only take 10-15 min. I waited 15min and punched out for lunch to get my tacos. Paid and sat down. A hr later, still no tacos.

But a group of 4 came and ordered… then another lady ordered… both of them got their orders before me…

So nothing has changed.

I got a refund and left.

And now im in my work parking lot typing this… hungry and...
