Clean roomy place with a very nice layout. Friendly somewhat knowledgeable help. They were not busy however, which isn't a good sign in my opinion. The brisket I bought was okay with the lean sliced at the correct width of 1/4" wide. In my experience, it was a bit overpriced for the overall quality of the meat. First, the tenderness earned high mark's as it was spot on in my slice pull test, with a clean gentle pull break and no stretch at all. FYI... some of the pound of sliced brisket that I purchased was sliced WITH the grain instead of across the grain, so that doesn't count in a pull test for tenderness, as this was simply the slicer's mistake back in the kitchen. My judgement of the bark was that it was weak, and the smoky flavor light. Now, please consider that I am comparing Louisiana brisket bark to central Texas bark, so this "Louisiana bark" is what it is I suppose. Okay... in looking at the next attribute, I would bet good money that the brisket I tried and bought was not Angus nor Hereford as the beefy flavor was also quite weak. Moving on, the USDA grade of this packer was most likely Select, and not Choice as marbling was sparse in the point, and the texture a bit dry where the "fatty" after being rendered nicely, SHOULD have a nice moist mouth-feel. Basically, the brisket overall was a bit below average according to my judging of it versus the top Arizona BBQ restaurant average. This is in looking at my 5 points of comparison. (Bark, tenderness, moistness, beefy flavor and finally smoky flavor) Next to try was a rack of their pork ribs. These were cooked/smoked quite nicely, and I felt that they were above the Arizona restaurant average, with a plus of being at a good price, so I do recommend them. I would go back for them...

Read moreI agree the restaurant is really clean, aside from an ant or two. The decor is spot on and fits a BBQ spot to the T! Now, again normally when I go to a rib spot I want to smell that smoker workin'...JJ's is not what it used to be though. I get it, but the place would be a hot spot if the Q was being done more regular instead of once or twice a week. I could taste that the meat was stored for a few days. It was not fresh smoked/grilled and the sauce is comparable to Cattleman's but watered down. Something is happening I dunno what, but the manager says she is going to change it to a Mexican food spot. I guess we will wait on the turn around. All in all JJ's was the place to go to for really good BBQ but now the meat is obviously pre-cooked days in advance and stored and the sides? Not what they used to be and seem also pre-packaged. Bring back the JJ's we know!!! Also I love the Lord! Maybe some jazz? The gospel is beautiful but is played so loud you can't hold a conversation without...
