I called this place twice (yesterday morning and this morning) to place an order for a small 6-inch cake for my motherâs birthday on Monday. Both times, neither employee was able to assist me at all, and reassured me that someone would call me back âwithin the hour.â No one called me back yesterday and it took nearly 3 hours to hear from someone today. I also emailed after more than an hour passed, because I donât have time to keep calling. I work in the event industry in NYC, so I know what it means to be busy during this season. Today I was told orders for Monday were cut off yesterday morning, and even though I called early yesterday morning with the intent to place an order, because their staff was unable to assist me at the time or even remember to call me back, I was told nothing could be done now. The only apolology I received was that theyâre âdoing their best,â but their best seems to include poor communication and poorly trained staff who cannot answer simple questions regarding a straightforward order to be delivered a couple blocks away. Sadly, their best doesnât even meet the lowest of my reasonable standards. I do hope the kids who answered my calls donât get berated for their lack of training, which isnât their fault. Itâs too bad my mum wonât be able to enjoy a cake from here, but if their confections are as good as their customer service, then sheâs probably better off with a...
Read moreI've been coming to Valerie's quite a bit. Their food is quite good; killer quiches and tasty chocolates, albeit a tad expensive. I'd also come for their lattes, but I think things have been changing recently? Last time I went, I was surprised to hear from the cashier that they "don't do espresso drinks" and they stopped serving side salads with their quiches. I'm sure the cashier thought I hadn't been before, but they still had the sign up for lattes and felt mildly dismissed by the comment. This is more of their "retail location," apparently, but it's a bit of a shame because the patio area is cute, and I like how off the path this place is. It's disappointing to see the selection of fresh drinks/food contract, but what they do have is...
Read moreThe food/service/atmosphere does not apply. My husband purchased a box of chocolates (mainly pralines and some truffles). 110 dollars...well, we are used to Sprungle (Swiss) or Chocolat (Austrian) and willing to pay for those. Both are infinitely superior to 'Valeries' and less expensive. Why the hype? Yes, the chocolate is decent but not worth the price. Perhaps other parts of what she sells is wonderful but Heath bars are the equivalent to the pralines, and Lindl is smoother and in my book better than...
