Mike's Place — Restaurant in Gloucester

I was home sick on Monday, and thought let me order a late lunch from Mike's place. Normally the food and the delivery service is terrific, if they say the food will be at your door in 40 minutes, it usually is there in 20-25 depending on when you call. I have always recieved the best food and service. Yesterday, the order was supposed to be delivered in 40 minutes, so an hour goes by and I call them..get some girl on the phone telling me "my driver just left, he should be there any time now" and one more later I was hearing the same drivel. I placed my order at 3:02, and it finally arrived at 4:25pm.

So I asked the driver what happened, he said he had to go to Rockport first, and I asked why he would do that and not drop off my order since I live a lot closer. The driver was honest with me and said he wanted to drop my order off first and head to Rockport but the manager made him go to Rockport first because they screwed up an order...

Now stuff happens, but what irritates me was the bold face lie - twice I was told the driver just left the building and that clearly was not the case.

The food at Mike's is very good, I hand it to the line cooks, they do a great job, just go in and watch them operate. But the rest of the staff could give two hoots about giving good customer service and...

Pale reflection of what it once was. Mikey must not come around anymore to visit. He ran a tight ship.i ordered a roast beef 3 way 3 different times and each time it was stuffed with close to raw,cooked and over cooked meat causing me to think that they just scrap the daily remains off the grill into a bun when ordered. I always ask for light on the condiments and it come back drenched and sloppy. I' actually also, in the past,ordered two separate deliveries that came back completely wrong. asked for a steak tip sandwich and got a chicken cutlet and asked for a chicken finger and got chicken cutlet with spaghetti. Called back on the second one and they told me they'd make my order right but expected me to come get it .think they got a thing for cutlet? Lol But anyway. I tried. It's heartbreaking because it was always a go to place for most of my life. Things change i get it. Cool people though I'm sure but I'm not there...

Simple food...simple order...

Italian sub with everything Cheesey fries after I confirmed they used a melted smooth cheese like a Velveeta...assured yes... otherwise I had an alternative order...took home...ugh!

Fries with shredded cheese melted on top and an Italian sub...with the correct meet and cheese...over flowing with hots and very little lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions.

Called to lodge a complaint about the cheesy fries since I was assured it was what I wanted...no apologies...brief pause...then an "ok" from the girl who waited on me and the call ended.

Silly me,gave them one more try for a garden salad. With tax came to $10.17. Got it home and took it out of the bag. I got a small bowl with lettuce, 2 small cucumber slices and 1 peppercini. Really ???? Called again to complain. No apologies, She just ok and hung up.

Beyond disappointed...and they lost us as customers and I will not hesitate to share...
