For some reason every time my HoneyBunches & I visit Goldsboro he insists on breakfast at the Lantern Inn. He is particularly fond of the unseasoned eggs, grits and turkey bacon. For my part I can give kudos for their biscuits and the fact that they provide molasses to-go (Gotta love the south!) Granted I’m no longer a local. I’m only a visitor and this was my second time at the Lantern Inn. This place has a dedicated clientele who isn’t going anywhere. I’m sure the owners and mgmt won’t care about my opinion and I’m positive nothing I say will make a difference. But the truth is the truth. What makes my experience at the Lantern Inn particularly unsavory is the service. My order is regularly messed up and the response to correct the issue is always lackluster. Most recently I placed two orders to-go. First of all, social distancing/ masks/Covid-19 is clearly a joke around here. But I noticed that throughout Goldsboro- very few people wearing masks and people routinely invaded my 6ft of personal space during my visit. When I pointed out I was missing an order I was informed that the two orders had been combined in one container. And why was that done?? Especially when someone orders two separate drinks -orange juice and sweet tea- someone working in food service would have to be aware of that nuance. Especially when you ask “Would you like anything else?” and I say yes and place a completely separate order. The visibly annoyed young lady didn’t apologize for the mistake, but just said “I didn’t know it was two orders. I’ll take it back & separate it.” Ummm sorry I don’t feel comfortable with that. 2020 has been too crazy and I looked in the container there’s no way THREE orders of eggs fit in that small section. I certainly didn’t want to go through someone else’s food to parcel out my spoonful of eggs and two turkey sausage links. Rather than continue feeling bothersome and unwelcomed (Imagine that when all I wanted to do was eat!) or continue allowing my HoneyBunches food to get colder, I just left. Let me tell you there is nothing worse than spending your hard earned money and not getting the correct order, getting attitude and ultimately not even eating. I gave my HoneyBunches his order of two cold eggs, grits and turkey bacon. The brand of turkey bacon they use is too lean so it won’t crisp the way turkey bacon can. I ordered eggs but didn’t get any. The turkey sausage was okay but cold of course. The sweet tea tasted like it was maybe mixed with an old batch. I don’t know this was a missed visit for me on a lot of levels. Fool me once shame you, fool me twice shame on you. There won’t be a...
Read moreBeen going to Lantern Inn for 20 years...as have all of my family. My family eats there once or twice a week. Today, my girlfriend and I went for breakfast this morning at 915am and the service was terrible. My gf ordered a ham n cheese omlette and I ordered 2 eggs over easy with country ham. We were told as soon as we were seated that they were out of hashbrowns (Is it hard to go to the store and get potatoes to make home fries if you run-out of hashbrowns?) So they offered us tater tots instead. 45 min went by after we ordered, no waiter helped us during that time or apologized. Ppl all around us that came 30 min after us all got their food while we waited. I had to go to the register to get help...told the lady we wanted to pay for our drinks and that we wanted to leave. She asked if I ea Ted them to cook our food immediately, I said no thanks. She then made excuses on how different breakfast meats take longer to cook. She said no charge for the drinks. As we were leaving, the buss boy came up to myself and my girlfriend and berated us in front of the entire establishment. He said, "we should be more understanding and that they were trying their best". Told us we needed to change our tone and he then got aggressive with us. So much a customer had to pull him away and it made a huge scene. WE WILL NOT BE BACK nor do I reccomend this place. As a retired Air Force guy, wouldn't recommend this place to fellow military...
Read moreI come here a few times a week for breakfast. The staff are phenomenal and the owner (who is also Goldsboro's Mayor, as well as my closest competitor for the best Airbnb Superhost in town) I'm told, DOES actually give the IRS the money he witholds from his employees paychecks...well, at least the one's at the Lantern Inn.
I highly recommend what has become my usual, it's a custom dish I came up with. Just ask any of the morning staff for the "Bed and Breakfast Burrito." It's basically five different types of pork, four different Cheese's, three different potatoes, and three eggs scrambled all together in a grilled tortilla. You won't find it anywhere on the menu, just like you won't find any justification for spending over $2M on Goldsboro's storm drain 'problem' (not to be confused with the funding for all the sewage line construction tearing up the roads in 2019), and could easily be solved by having the residents bag their yard waste instead of raking it to the curb thus creating a virtual dam prohibiting the water from getting to the storm drain in the first place.....
... However, when it comes to running a local diner, the mayor...
