I'm pleasantly surprised. Thoroughly impressed. A great addition to downtown!
This used to be Chubby's, and the remodeling here is excellent. Elegant tables and paint job. Love the downtown Goldsboro street map/mural thing. Has a small but elegant bar with some TVs. Decor is great. Also, noticeable music selection with appropriate volume. Maybe soft rock to pop. Heard Beatles, Train, lighter Green Day stuff, etc. Fits the vibe. Excellent in this aspect. The joint got busy after a few minutes, but this didn't hinder the vibe or whatever.
We did a large sampling of food here, and all were fantastic. Here they are:
The Borough Egg Rolls ($11) - neat concoction. Four hollowed out egg roll type shell with pork, collards, and sweet Tai chili sauce. Has a slight vinegar zing of ENC style pork, and the mix of stuff is great. What a great starter, but I wouldn't put it beyond these for a meal. Well presented, too.
Prime Rib Bacon Burger Sliders ($17) - another good choice. Has an interesting mix of bacon, meunster, pickle, fried onion, lettuce, and tomato. The meat has a somewhat heavy consistency, yet easy to eat. Again, a good mix and a reorder for my taste.
The Wedge (was a $3 upcharge with my meal) - another wow! Wedges are usually blue cheese, and this one is as well. A decent sized wedge of butter bibb, bacon, and onions. It also comes with pecans and pickled beets, and cranberries. The latter three I thought would detract from it, mainly because I would have never imagined these on a wedge. Proven wrong, and what an excellent salad. Love it.
Julius Caesar Wrap ($15) - this was the dark horse of our meal, and perhaps the best thing we had. Wow, and more wow. It's a warm wrap with the crispy fried chicken, lettuce, parmesan, dressing, and bacon. The consistency of this is fantastic to the bite, and the Caesar salad folks will be happy. This wrap really stands out in a room full of stars (the food we sampled). The accompanying fries were plentiful and seasoned well.
Frankly, everything was awesome, and all aforementioned food are reorders. Nailed it in every which way.
Bonus mention is the speed of our food coming out and attentive service. Good job. We aren't alcohol drinkers, but they have a cocktail menu and offer other mixed drinks, etc, should you want to indulge.
This is a much needed place for Goldsboro, and we look forward...
Read moreI try to support small local businesses, but I am honestly surprised they are still open. We have been 3 separate times (trying to give them the benefit) and will say they have struck out every time. Every time we have been its the same story, they are out of pork, crab, and shrimp (which eliminates 8 to 10 items on there 24ish item menu. This last time they even ran out of fries. While we were waiting for our food, they sent an employee to the store to get more and they finally came out to tell us right before the meal was delivered(almost 1hr in). I wish I could say that was the only problem. They made one slider plate wrong ( they added cheese )took it back to the kitchen and brought it back in less than 3 minutes. It appeared they had wiped the cheese off added more ketchup and sent It back (I say this because the other bun still had specks of melted cheese on it), even after telling the waitress the person cannot eat cheese. On a positive note the wait staff were friendly and apologetic which is nice especially since it was not there fault but clearly...
Read moreA friend and I planned our food stop here after traveling from Jacksonville to see the Cliffs of the Neuse state park. We were seated so quickly and Alexis instantly brought us waters to cool off from the heat outside. The atmosphere was calm, and dimly lighted which felt like a refuge from the blazing sun outside. Alexis took our order swiftly, made delicious recommendations, continued to check on us, and explained the menu so thoroughly we thought she was a manager, but she's been working there since they opened a year ago! Our food was SO flavorful, and really hit the spot! I highly recommend the waffle cheese fries, but get the jalapeño ranch! It's not actually spicy, but offers even more flavor than their homemade ranch which was also delicious. We ordered two different types of sliders so we could mix and match to share and they were both incredible: Daddy B's BBQ and the prime rib, garnished with an inviting little pickle on top! It was a great first experience and definitely a pin I'm adding to pleasant restaurants within 2...
