Here's the thing, the food was nice and I debated on writing this. I chose to because A) another patron pointed out the issue and B) in case it has any effect on how the bartenders are trained.
I won't write a long story, but after I sat and was given a menu many workers walked past me with zero acknowledgement. This might have been fine except that they didn't do that to anyone else. Many people who arrived after me and sitting at the bar were repeatedly checked on, able to order, etc. It was so egregious that the patrons to the right and the left of me both noticed. I was curious how long the bartenders would let their eyes slide past me before finally speaking to me, however, they never got the chance. After about 30 minutes, the person next to me said "would you please help them" and called the bartenders behavior ridiculous. Other patrons around apologized to me after... I'm assuming because they saw this was only happening to me and I was the only Black person at the bar.
I don't think this was intentionally malicious, but it's worth pointing out because we all have subconscious biases that affect our behavior. I didn't voice that conclusion on my own, but the people around me did. I do think that racial bias isn't always violence and slurs but can include rendering someone invisible.
I won't be returning to Finney's after this experience, but the food itself was nice. Do with that...
Read moreThe hostess was courteous and prompt, and the California Cobb was great. The server was not up to par. After I had been seated, the hostess came over to ask if my server had stopped by. She had not. The hostess graciously brought my water, and the server showed up just before the drink did. I had to tell the server I was ready to order (she had left me alone long enough to peruse the menu), she didn’t ask. The manager brought my food, the server did not. The server stopped once to deliver the check. I was her first seated table, and she attended the second table very well. The other two tables had not ordered when I left. I decided not to tip her when she walked by me as I set my nearly-empty water glass down. She didn’t deserve a tip because she didn’t serve me - the hostess and...
Read moreThe Finney’s Crafthouse in Goleta was a great place to for lunch. My wife and I felt the excellent customer service right when we walked in. All of the staff were extremely friendly and our waitress Ester was exceptional. It is a great place if you want to grab a drink and watch some sports with friends. The restaurant has plenty of televisions to watch your favorite sporting events . They also have outdoor seating with heaters. The food was very delicious. All the things we ordered, which was the Wagu meatballs, Parmesan chicken wings and the Philly cheesesteak sandwich hit the spot! Finney’s Crafthouse is well run restaurant. I definitely recommend going to one near you. In addition, the food is reasonably price and a good value...
