El Meskal — Restaurant in Gonzales

Walked in and first thing i noticed smelled like cigarettes. Went to my table and large ghetto family with kids screaming straight away. Salt had rice inside of it for some reason not sure why? Tried to buy candy from dispenser and it said march of 2018. Got my drinks ordered and chips and salsa which was mediocre, Salsa was boiling almost, asked for extra time to order and took lady 20 minutes to come back and even acknowledge me. Got my food quick and it was alright but family started yelling with crying baby’s, also they starting vaping inside at the table. Do not recommend unless you smoke or vape inside or scream at your kids and can put up with it. Gave waitress 5 dollar tip and she looked at me like I was poor.

I've given this place two tries. BOTH times have been terrible. Do not waste your money. I try to support local small business but this place is terrible. The floor is so dirty. The whole place smells like a donkey. Food was worse than the smell... The chips were hard and stale. The food was nasty. I got the chicken lunch special. Chicken in a tortilla fried with cheese sauce, rice and beans. There was a giant nasty piece of chicken skin and fat in my fist bite rice was old, cold, and crunchy. Beans were watery, cold, and had no flavor. I left just as hungry as I came.. Only so grossed out I couldn't eat for the rest it the night.. This place needs to get there shyt together... In essence. Very fast service, took about 10 minutes for me and my friend to get our food. Nice staff. The food was good but I wouldn't say great. I got grilled chicken tacos, the chicken was seasoned well but it was a little too greasy. I wasn't thrilled with Spanish rice or refried beans, both were kinda bland and not great tasting. The salsa was pretty good. The restaurant itself is kinda dim lit and cluttered feeling to me. My friend gets steak nachos and he loves them so maybe it's worth trying them. So overall the food was good but not great in my opinion, definitely room for improving. The service was quick I can say that for sure. Cheap...
