I have been waiting for a new option to Romans and Tailgaters for almost 5 years. Nothing wrong with those two places but one is always has a very crowded bar and the other one barely has any people and TVs on weekdays so needless to say I was very excited about having a new option. I have visited the place several times and unfortunately instead of having an improved experience it keeps getting worse. There have been a couple of times where even though I have placed my order with plenty of time before the happy hour ends, I get charged regular prices. I guess the charge is when it processed by the staff not when it was ordered. There have also been times when I've waited 20 minutes for an order and by the time I order the happy hour is over and they inform that happy hour prices are no longer available. I'm talking 2 dollars. This will not change in any way, shape or form my life but it's the principle of the situation that bothers me but today was the kicker. I ordered my usual vodka soda and was asked if I wanted it on a tall or short glass. I asked for a tall glass. I then ordered waffle fries from the happy hour menu because it said that it included chopped jalapenos. I got the waffle fries, but it was nothing like the description on the menu, but it didn't bother me, but I just noticed it in my mind. The surprise was when I get the check. I normally don't check the details on the bill and just paid it but after looking at the detailed bill I noticed that I was charged for two double drinks and the waffle fries which on the happy hour menu were 6 dollars had a price of 9 dollars. I'm not sure if there are two types of waffle fries so I blamed myself for not looking more thoroughly at the menu, but I also noticed that I was charged two double drinks. Both drinks were ordered before happy hour ended but one was charged at regular price. Again, no big deal, it's just an extra 2 bucks and it was not the first time that it happens to me but when I asked for an explanation on the double shot, I was informed that it was because I was asked if I wanted a tall double shot or small single shot. This was clearly not the question I was asked. I was asked if I wanted a short or tall glass. I responded tall which is my normal go to order but that I never realized that tall meant double. The server looked at me like I was just trying to get out of paying what I ordered which is when I realized it was time for me to leave. I had high expectations for this place and the food quality is actually quite good, but I guess I have to realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side and Tailgaters and Romans is...
Read moreLots to unpack here. Hang in there friends. I’ll start with the positives. The food was great! We shared the Frankie’s sandwich and the buffalo wings, we thought it was great and no complaints there at all. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Our server was great, the host was great. Host even came around several times to check on us when the server was busy which shows great team work and that’s how it should be. They were playing country music the whole time. Awesome! Cold beers. 👍🏻
Ok let’s get to the negatives. This place is extremely overpriced. A sandwich for $25 is kind of insane. Even just a side order of waffle fries… $12! 🤯 We have been trying this establishment since it was N’Dubs, they were also overpriced. Second place Elixir, also overpriced and didn’t last long. You’d think the newest tenants would maybe put these things together.
We were offered beers at 16oz or 22oz. We ordered 22oz. They are most definitely NOT 22oz beers. Please see attached photos. They are 18oz beers. And if that’s what you serve in your restaurant, great! But be honest about that and have appropriate pricing. The aluminum cup is supposedly 22oz. We ordered the 16oz second round to compare.
From the menu only we could tell they are trying to have a baseball themed establishment. Great, makes sense with the ballparks right here. But other than the menus you’d never know. They kept the interior exactly the same from previous Elixir which is kind of strange and doesn’t fit. At the minimum maybe have the bottle mural changed to something baseball?
Music was too quiet. Turn it up a little. Doesn’t have to be obnoxiously loud, but I would love to not hear every word spoken of the table next to me and feel like I have to talk quiet to not be overheard.
Speaking over overheard, the table sat behind us, overheard them saying “wow, this place is pricey”.
This place has potential for sure. Hopefully the owners realize that before it’s too late and make some changes.
It could be a great spot.
My husband and I were just giggling because we recently ate at Coopers Hawk and he said this place is more expensive than Coopers Hawk which is fine dining steakhouse. So we looked it up, and yes it most definitely is! Check...
Read moreWe'd been to this location years ago when it was another restaurant and the upgrade alone in here is awesome. Definitely liked the vibe. Great bar area, nice pool table with good mix of booth and high top seating options. This parking lot is bit of a cluster and with the nearby apartments and such can be hard to find parking, but this time was no issue. When we walked in there were a few other patrons eating, but the hostess station was empty and there was a sign telling us to wait to be seated. It took quite a few moments before we saw an employee. I think when slower like this maybe seating yourself with menus at the table might help to detour impatient people and allow some time to look over the menu in my opinion of course. Once seated our server took our drink order while we tried to decide what to eat. We'd originally been looking for somewhere with a club sandwich etc, but we realized quickly the menu here is quite different from your typical bar/grill. There was a menu for happy hour offering more norms such as nachos, pretzels etc but strictly between 3-6. They definitely have their own spin on everything here. I'm more open to try new things than my husband, but he said he was willing to try. We agreed on the fried chicken sliders with waffle fries. I wanted to try a burger but wasn't hungry enough. While the burger with Alfredo sauce sounded interested I was a bit nervous to try it. Again, however I find that things that sound weird can be delicious. We'll definitely have to come back to try some other things and update our review then. Our food came out quick, looked great and she brought us extra plates. Service slowed down from there but she still did check on us. I love, love , love local spots and I hope Breakaway does well. Our sliders were actually delicious. The sauce on them was good and not too much. I liked the added pickle slice on top. Waffle fries were crisp. We left full, but not overly and we split 1 and 1/2 sliders each. Good stop for drinks etc. with a chill vibe. My only other possible recommendation is maybe add a few more basics for that picky kid/family member so we people can come together and enjoy...
