I had no idea what to do for dinner this chilly evening but spotted this place on Ubereats and the fried fish Friday special struck hubby's fancy. We're always down for some good home-cooking and that's exactly what we got!
The fish was catfish, with an excellently seasoned breading and not too fishy. The mac'n'cheese was better than most but not as good as homemade. The gravy was delectable on the rice and the chicken.
The chicken was fried with nice crunchy coating that was perfectly seasoned. It was still sizzling and melted the top of the Styrofoam container, so I broke that part of the crust off LOL The leg and thigh were juicy and delicious. Fried chicken like my Daddy used to make.
The cabbage was mild and not at all skunky. Nice pieces of pork in there added some salty richness. The glory here are the collards! They are legit: tender but not limp, packed with big flavor just like your Southern Grandma made em, rich pot likker waiting for me to finish it up with the cornbread.
I wanted hummingbird cake but they only had red velvet and lemon velvet. The lemon is tangy, with tart-sweet whipped frosting. It's incredibly moist and fresh.
The punch is super-sweet and Kool--Aidy. The flavor is like a strawberry mango with maybe lemonade. It's a tasty treat reminiscent of supper at Granny's.
This is a wonderful authentic soul food joint, and I will need these collards on a...
Read moreThis was my first visit off of a recommendation. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I believe I heard it was a family owned business. Unfortunately I will never visit again. Our food was $38-$40....but I was fine with that proce if the food was good but my food was horrible. With the two dinners, we got Rice & gravey....🤮the rice was so undercooked it's texture was like someone poured gravy on uncooked rice. Just plain brown gravy no onion, blackpepper, or salt....no flavor. The chicken too bland, no flavor. Just baked with the brown gravy. The big cut cabbage also, no flavor, just boiled in water🤢 the candy yams...one of my favorite southern desserts was tough stringy cinnamon flavor boiled 🍠 yams...highly disappointed 😞 the other dinner was fried fish....now that was hot and actually great 2-3 pieces cabbage and mac& cheese. We never tried the mac&cheese since everything else was horrible. We also did get the 3 fried collard green egg rolls....they were hot and was a 4 out of 10...the dipping sauce made those a 6. This was not a good experience and we love trying new places to dine...unfortunately we give this a poor rating and will never visit again. Maybe they will do better for their customers of the future. Nice staff...
Read moreI didn't know this restaurant existed until I drove by it one day and so I decided to go check it out. I unfortunately didn't have the opportunity to taste the food because the customer service for me was not there. When I went inside the restaurant I was not greeted by anyone even though they were standing right there at the front counter when they saw me come in. However a white couple came in a few minutes after I did and they got greeted and was seated right away. I was still standing at the counter to place a to go order and still no one said anything to me. About ten minutes passed a lady came from the back and asked if I was picking up or placing an order. I told her I was going to place an order but by that time I was already disgusted and disappointed. I refuse to give my hard earned money to a black owned restaurant just because they are black. I have the same expectations for them that I have for any other restaurant. I'm going to need the people who own and operate in that restaurant to do better because the only reason white people come there is because black people made...
