We ordered from Mr. Pan on a Saturday when my wife and I were both physically exhausted, just absolutely wiped out from housework. I was ready to just sleep. She wanted to get some food. She liked the look of Mr. Pan. I got the Spicy Tonkotsu (pork belly ramen, not to be confused with Tonkatsu, pork belly rice -- though either option sounds good), don't know what entree she got. She also ordered some Spring Rolls and Gyozu for everyone to share. (And a Milk Tea for the two of us to share in secret.)
My wife's mood --==Changed==-- after she devoured her Beef Ramen [I just asked her what entree she ordered]. The Gyozu probably helped too. They are delicious, insert profane adjective of your choice before the word delicious, please. They are gone as if they never existed on the face of the Earth.
I look down, as I write this, in between chopstick loads of ramen, into my bowl of Spicy Tonkotsu. Yesterday was Halloween. I got up at 6am to start working and finally got to take a break at 7pm. After a couple hours of Trick or Treaters, some adults came over and brought beer and Jello shots.
I woke up this morning as I was last night, in physical pain, exhausted, with a long list of things to do. We parked two of our vehicles at the neighborhood park and pool to free up the driveway for costumed candy seekers, so I had to go get them. Then took a long hot shower, had a Moscow Mule although Slava Ukraina, and did items 2-7 on my list. Wife said she was thinking about ordering muffins. Sounds fine, I'll go for Pistachio. Oops, they're closed, how about a hot spicy bowl of fried pork belly, ramen, kimchi, boiled egg, broth, and the rest are here on Gilligan's Isle?
I look down, as I said, into a bowl of orange. Nothing orange that you eat can be anything but purely healthy and nutritious, that sounds like a well-known fact. It heals me. My HP are restored. I have a double XP bonus for the next 8 hours, I can feel it. I inhale copious volumes of noodles, and cabbage, and pork, and pepper.
The moment arrives. It is easier to drink it now than to fish for fatty protein. I guzzle it down like Robin Hood and Lil' Jon never even dreamin' there was danger in the water they was drinkin'. There's shockingly more corn than I would've expected from an Asian pot noodle, and I ponder for a moment the interactions between Chinese immigrants to the American West and the Native Americans pushed west by a forever-encroaching United States of America [Except You.]
It is done. I am slaked and sated and while I plan to enjoy the rest of the day with my eyes closed in the sun listening to The Two Towers on Audible, I feel as reinvigorated as if I'd just eaten a club sandwich made with lembas bread. 5 stars.
P.S. We snuck a taste of the milk tea and I said to my wife that I don't understand why that's not just for sale everywhere, because people would drink it all the time. She travels for work a lot so it feels more accessible to her. I've had it in Chinatown in San Francisco and New York and would say this was just as good. +2.5 stars.
P.P.S. Incredible, record-breaking, 7.5 stars, call Dave Meltzer, we're not...
Read moreAs a DoorDash driver, I recently had an experience at Mr. Pan Ramen House that left me deeply offended. Upon arriving for a pickup, I followed my usual practice of heading to the back where the staff was working. I was informed that my customer's order was still being prepared, so I briefly used the restroom. Returning to the same spot, I was abruptly told to wait in the front.
While waiting, I witnessed a staff member personally delivering orders to customers in the waiting section with a smile. However, when I inquired about my order, I was met with a completely different approach. Instead of simply handing me the order, I was instructed to "follow me" to the back of the restaurant. There, my customer's order was sitting on a table, as if waiting for me to retrieve it myself.
I am extremely disappointed and frankly, insulted by this clear disparity in treatment. Why was I singled out and made to feel like I wasn't worthy of the same level of service as other customers? Why was I required to follow someone to the back for an order that was ready, while others had their orders brought directly to them? It felt demeaning and discriminatory. I can't help but wonder if my race influenced this unacceptable treatment. Mr. Pan Ramen House needs to seriously examine its practices to ensure that all customers and drivers are treated with the respect and courtesy they deserve. This experience has not only made me question their values but has also made me hesitant to accept future orders from this...
Read moreFood always comes out fast and the place is spotless. I’ve been here twice now and tried the Spicy Miso Ramen, Pork Ramen, and Beef Garlic Ramen.
My favorite? Hands down the Pork Ramen, it’s rich, flavorful, and seriously delicious. My husband’s fave is the Spicy Miso Ramen. If you like spicy, go for the Spicy Miso, but if you’re all about that deep, rich broth, definitely get the Pork Ramen. The Beef Garlic is good too, but honestly, it just can’t compete with those two!
Dumplings, we tried both fried and steamed, and wow, the fried dumplings were the total star of the show! Crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The steamed ones were also good, but they taste exactly like the Trader Joe’s soup dumplings, seriously,...
